Another 3-4 team picking ahead of the pats in round 2.
Seahwaks switched places in the 2nd and traded a 3rd for whitehurst

They drafted Larry English around pick 15 last year. No way will they take another OLB within the first 2 rounds. Dont sweat them. Between losing Cromartie and Tomlinson, and their Oline needing help, they wont be affecting how we draft one bit.

Agreed.

They obviously think Merriman is good to go this year judging by the tender value they placed on him.

...was traded for the same value as Matt Cassel (+ Vrabel) were.

BB could of got a #1 for matt if he waited a lil longer denver the bears. or some other team would have came up with a low #1 for matt and they would not have traded vrabel,

San Deigo is an one gap penetrating 3-4. The Pats run a two gap, read and react 3-4. Their style of defense is almost as different from the Pats as many of the 4-3 teams in the league. Besides, the Chargers have different priorities than the Pats on defense like a NT.

Not all 3-4 teams are the same. Just because a team is a 3-4 team doesn't mean they are targetting the same type of players as the Pats.

First, all indications was that Vrabel was gone whether Cassel got traded. The Pats had already discussed trading Vrabel before the Cassel trade. The Pats were due to pay Vrabel a roster bonus and they weren't going to pay it.

Second, there is no guarantees that the Pats would have gotten a first for Cassel even in hindsight. Even with what Denver got for Cutler, there is no guarantees they would have sent a first rounder to the Pats for Cassel.

I am confused as hell!

The Seahawks:
Traded their 3rd
Swapped 2nds

for some random backup qb? Is this their guy of future?

This can't be right.

i have to agree with you on vrabel, i don't think he had much left in the tank. as far as cassel, goes. you maybe right i guess we will never realy know.

that's true, but we would not of had enough cap space to sign beasts Chris Baker and Joey Galloway early in FA

No-one has any idea if that is true. We had a huge cap # on a mediocre QB, we did REALLY well to get the second pick of the second round; which is very close to a #1, btw.

As for Whitehurst, he's the hot backup QB right now for reasons I have no idea about.

Matt Hasselbeck was drafted in the 6th round by the Packers, and traded to the Seahawks for essentially a 3rd round pick, as a backup.

Teams scout other teams backup for just this reason. If a good player is buried on the depth chart behind other good players and doesn't get a shot to prove what he can do, it's up to other teams to do the legwork.

I don't know why Whitehurst was in such demand, but you can be sure that Carroll is pumped and jacked about this.

The Patriots got the Kansas 2nd round pick straight up.

This deal is simply a swap of 2nd round picks.

Ah alright, judging by the topic title "SEA gets Whitehurst, Chargers have 6th pick in 2nd" I just assumed it was Whitehurst for their second rounder.

That makes a lot more sense. ;)

flawless! (no homo)

Though he's gonna have a lot of competition for best hair on the team from the Seahawk's starting QB, Hasselbeck

LOL. Pete Carroll making his mark.

I feel for the Seahawks fans.

That's a handsome man. Sign him as Brady's backup and we are talking about the all time best looking QB combo in NFL history. Ya know, if that kind of thing interests you.
