I'm not one to post calling out a message-board in general -- but c'mon.

If a professional football player wants to spend time with his kids rather than make the locale of his daily workouts be Foxboro, that's his privilege.

And if he and his wife choose to raise their kids in some other city than the one where he's on the team, that's their privilege too.

I come from a small family, without strong geographical roots. But even I was separated from my father for a year or so twice, due to his work. If somebody has a lot of extended family and a travel-heavy job, it might make a lot of sense to leave his wife and kids in the area where the family is.

The voluntary OTAs are more for the players with less then 3 years experience. The older veterans know the drill and in fact the Pats can work with them so they can "work from home". Most of it is just weight room and film study.

Yeah, except for the part where they get to retire before they're 40, a luxury many do not have.

Their offseason is months long. Again, a luxury most do not have.

They get paid millions of dollars and can afford to fly out to their kids as often as they like or bring them there. Yet again, this is a luxury most do not have.

So spare me the sob stories. These guys get to spend more time with their families during their career and after than just about anyone else in this country.

Brady needs to get back to being the "CEO/Captain of the team/Unquestioned leader." The team will follow his lead, that's just the way it is when you play QB. His role now is very crucial for the upcoming season. The players need to know who the boss is, there can be no question. A lot of success in football depends on leadership and following the leader, football players love certainty. Certainty not only on the football field but in the locker room. You can't be an absentee leader, that’s why it’s so important for Tom to be here in the offseason helping the team develop. The offseason was a big part of his success as a younger player and he needs to get back to those fundamentals. The team will go as he goes, now and during the season. After last offseason where he was away doing rehab he needs to get back to Foxboro and get "his" team back. This is what separated him in the past, he was one of the guys and led by example. You can't talk tough during the season and have the team pay attention unless you grow together during the offseason.

My heart just bleeds for them. They "work" 6-8 months out of the year and make millions of dollars doing it. They play 16 games a year and half of those games are at home... Family is not an excuse. This is a business.

I think I'm going to tell my boss I need to be with my family for for a few months. I'm sure he would understand : )

Bottom line is that the team leader should be here especially after coming off a mediocre season for himself and the team.

They're called voluntary workouts. If your job ask you to come in voluntarily during the weekend, chances are you're not going to come in.
