Everyone in the AFC East except for one team has appeared to upgrade

Maybe they were not all great selections but the other AFC East Teams not named the Patriots have appeared to better themselves.

The Jets have added LT, Antonio Cromartie, DT Rod Wright and S Brodney Poole. Like these players or not, it has made them at least somewhat better.

The Fins have signed LB Dansby, Perhaps the best single AFC East signing so far.

The Bills have signed DT Dwan Edwards, ILB Andra Davis (both still young and decent). OT Cornell Greene, DT Marlon Favorite.

The Pats signed their own!! (oh yeah, they could have done this months ago) and some special teams LB called Murrell or Morall or something.

Am I wrong or does their seem to be an issue here? Or do we go back to the old standard "The Draft is going to save us all!" routine.

"Better" is relative to what the other teams on the schedule look like in September through January. There is no "issue" here and still lots of time before rosters are settled. You also can NOT say they could have signed their own months ago.

If no team lost a FA there would be no free agency. Just be patient, we don't need a new thread every day talking about the sky is falling in March. Let it play out.

Dwan Edwards and Dansby are the only players I would consider improvements. The fact that Cornell Green is considered an upgrade is basically a testament to how bad the Bills' oline is.

I don't know why people are so caught up in the Jet's signing of Cromartie and LT, one was basically ran out of town and traded away for nothing and the other is a shell of his former self. Honestly, If the Patriots had signed either of them I'd have been pissed.

On a serious note, Im surprised there isnt more threads like this one on pg 1. I thought for sure i'd come back to threads about BB not signing every FA known to mankind, and how he's ruining the team

I said this in an earlier post, but this wouldn't be an issue had the Pats drafted better. In fact, their '06 and '08 drafts have really come back to haunt them. Also, despite people overrating their '09 draft, they are all still questions marks as they haven't proven jack sh*t other than spot duty. So it's comical when people on this board say their defense is "set" because of their '09 draft.

If nobody from that '09 draft class steps their game up and earns a starting job, this team will be in big trouble. If the Pats can't find a instant starter in their 2010 draft, which is said to be very deep, this team will be in big trouble.

I agree their defense isn't yet set. I'm not trying to bash you (I like alot of your posts) and this isn't directed only at you, but those are some pretty big "IFs". Most teams have those kind of IFs, if not more. So why not wait to see how things play out in FA and the draft before being very negative? I guess this is directed more at the OP.

LOL, so the bills improved from a horrible team, to a less-horrible team

the phins lost two OLB edge rushers in joey and taylor, and their starting safety, and added the best ILB in football, making it even

the jets improved their secondary with cromartie in the best case scenario, or simly replaced one washed up player with another, and replaced a very good rb, with one that has nothing left

we signed our best guys back, and lost ppl which were minimal in our success

Let me rephrase my statement as it seems more harsh than it really is. What I meant by "trouble" is that they won't be a championship quality team. I expect them to win the division but get bounced out of the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs if they continue to have drafts like they've had. Expect seasons like '02, '05 and '09.

The only difference between other teams having the same "Ifs" as the Pats is that they don't have Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. Specifically, Brady and Manning are expected by their fans and the media to compete for a super bowl victory every season. The same cannot be said for most teams in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong, I like the current approach of the Pats which is not spending big in free agency but building through the draft. The only problem is, their recent drafts have been pretty bad (specifically '06 and '08). Also, I said last year's draft was the most critical in the BB's era and out of 10 picks, none made an impact. That's pretty pathetic when a team is going through as much turnover as the Pats. This draft will be interesting as it's being hyped up as one of the best classes in years. It's not asking much for the Pats to acquire one player in this year's draft to make an impact. Despite what most fans say on this board, plenty of positions are up for grabs.
