After reading some quotes from Doc and hearing him Mic'd up during the game yesterday - it's pretty clear he is very cognizant of this team's problem: lack of ball movement.
The antidote to the stagnant offense is letting Rajon Rondo be the catalyst for the offense. If Doc is aware of it, then who is stopping this from happening? The Big 3? Rondo himself? Does Rondo need to step up and assert control?
I wish I had the time, but I guarantee if you broke down a series of 5-10 Celtics games and calculated the efficiency of this offense when Rondo is used as the primary ball-handler and offensive-catalsyt versus when Rondo just comes down the court and hands the ball off to one of the big 3 for a set play - I think you'd see the obvious: this team is better with Rondo running it.
Paul Pierce needs to handle the ball much less - much, much, much less. The offense should NEVER run through him anymore. He is past the point where he can carry this team, and when he, or Sheed, or KG or anyone else tries to create a mismatch one-on-one, its futile. The only player on this team who can create mismatches by himself is Rajon Rondo. Period. No one else is creating a competitive advantage by trying to isolate themself against the defender - that doesn't mean they aren't good offensive players, it just means they need someone to create offense for them. Allen, Pierce & KG are all much better players when Rondo creates space for them. At this point in their career, none can really create their own shot the way they used to.
Rondo makes every player on the court better. He is, hands down, the best player on this team at this point in time, with all of the big 3 out of their prime. If he had a jumper, he'd be enough to carry this team to championship level, but he doesn't - so he needs to rely on his teammates. BUT, if Doc, Rondo, and the Big 3 can all realize what needs to happen, this team can beat anybody. When Rondo is at his best, and we've seen it a lot this year, no one can stop this team. If they stick w/ the status quo, continue to mis-use Rondo and over-rely on the Big 3, then it'll be a very short postseason.
