Re: NFL - NYG and NYJ host home games opening weekend

Giants host sept 12 game - sunday
jets host monday nighter sept 13th (first of 2 that night)

very interesting.

I'll be watching to see if there's shades of blue under the green paint in the end zones. ;)

Get ready for another mnf opener... we will be at the jets week 1..

not sure if it's getting funny or sad but here's Woody's statement just released:

An NFL coin toss has a few fundamental elements that are missing here, most notably the presence of the teams involved. That's how it's always done in the League, whether it's determining the order of the draft or deciding who's going to kick off the game. When the issue of which team would be hosting the first regular season game could not be resolved on the merits, I suggested a coin toss as the fairest way to resolve this issue. The League rejected that idea. Then, I was told on Friday that a coin toss had taken place at the League office and that the Jets had lost. We rejected a process in which neither team was present. The League departed from our time-honored tradition and declined the opportunity to set the matter straight with a transparent process.

The NFL rightfully put down its fist and gave the opening game of the stadium.... to the team with a better reputation and legacy.

Giants get opener and deserve it... and it's not even close.

Remember that time when NYJ's passed up on Dan the man Marino?

Yeah... Even if there was a "private" or rigged coin flip..... you know it's going to favor the G-Men.

Jets will be the second team to Open the stadium....

but I ask you gentlemen.... how do you open something that has already been opened? :)

Gang green must be rattled :D

This is what you get when you share a stadium.

And didn't the Pats draft a QB named Eason over Marino?

while i agree with you in theory...if i were woody (and for the record i'm glad i'm not!) but if I were the owner of the a team that was footing "half" the bill for the stadium...I'd like to be able to christen it.

The coin toss (real or not) was the only way to work it out and yes...i agree that it worked out where the g-men get the gm. I just think the whole situation is funny actually...maybe it's a lack of football thing!

Course the better solution would be....get ur own damn stadium ;)

yeah but we later got TFB and became a dynasty...... and Now you haveThe Sanchize

Re: Giants and Jets will flip coin to decide who opens new stadium

No, it is not. Giants Stadium is a pile of rubble. The new stadium is Meadowlands Stadium and is a 50/50 split between the two teams. However, the Giants' offices are still in the new stadium, while the Jets have a new facility down the road in Florham Park, NJ.

Have they dug up Hoffa's remains yet?

Re: Giants and Jets will [NOT] flip coin to decide who opens new stadium

Come to think of it though, if they did that there'd probably be a whole new fight over who would be the "home" team.

If they were scheduled to play each other, who the home team is would already be pre-scheduled. And seeing as they play each other once every four years already, I assume it would be whoever wasn't the home team last time.

Shouldnt they be the NJ Jets?

HA HA

The Jets losing has already begun.

Jets to host opening Monday Night Football week 1 game (Could be vs. Patriots?)

The schedule is a few weeks away but the league has confirmed that the Giants will open the new stadium as the host of the Sunday Night game while the Jets host the Monday Night game - BOTH new stadium games will be in week 1 (no surprise considering the NY Media frenzy).

Of the Jets home schedule, the only real possibilities to me to be worthy of prime time in the first week of play are either the Patriots or the Favre led Vikings as the probable opposition.

Wouldn't it be an amazing night if the Patriots can be the ones to face the Jets in thier new stadium and beat them?

I wouldn't bet against this matchup happening.

Who taking bets that the ESPN broadcast includes a timelapse montage of the crews changing ov er the stadium in 24 hours.

Re: Jets to host opening Monday Night Football week 1 game (Could be vs. Patriots?)

I would because they don't need added hype of a rivalry matchup on opening weekend. They tend to save that for down the road a bit. I would think the rematch of weeks 17 and 18 (Bengals) would be the logical choice. Once the season gets underway no one will care about that anymore so strike while there is still interest...

If the Bengals had signed T.O. who the media has a hard-on over,I think that scenerio would be more likely but to me Cincy is a pretty boring team and opening night would probably be a snoozer.....and a Jets Blowout - Hope you are wrong

If Favre decides to come back it would be sweet if they played the Vikings.

All the signage in the new stadium is electronic.

They will use lighting to cast a blue or green light on the building depending on who is playing.

At any rate it will only take a few seconds to switch from Giants stadium to Jets stadium.

Guess adding LT hasn't helped the class of the Jests
:enranged:

And the trash goes down a chute into a sewer in the middle of the field. The insignias of the two teams on the field are done with LEDs.

Believe me, there is a lot of work to do in those 20 hours.
