Fortunately, it's not a fact, nor did MoLewisRocks say that. He simply made an analogy.

Agreed. The term "not going to pay him" I took to mean the $1 million bonus that Vrabel had coming to him as a member of the Patriots that was transferred to KC with the trade and wasn't referring to AD at all.

From the link above...Reiss..."Puzzling move by the Cleveland Browns to reportedly pay quarterback Jake Delhomme $7 million this season. While Delhomme could have landed as a backup in New Orleans, the Browns were basically bidding against themselves because they were the only team that could offer the chance to compete for a starting job."

Brady Quinn to Denver helps explain this

How many veteran players show up for the off season workout program? Do we know if AD was ever one of them? I suppose he could show up and play chicken in an uncapped season, but from what I hear he never exerted himself in the weight room even even in his first season here... If he really injures himself in training sessions I guess we will have to IR him. The team may well have insurance to cover that cost which would only then pose a problem if they had to count him against a cap...

If he wants out he won't show up here until mandatory OTA's.

How about he shows up, feigns injury and then can't be cut because he's injured. Is that possible?

If I'm the pats, I don't let him on the field. Cut him. It's like in the movie "Outlaw Josey Wales"...."shoot him now Jed, shoot him now!"...they didn't and ended up getting shot by Josey and the kid.

Last year the Patriots had 52 offseason workout sessions.
AD attended 44
Brady - 37
Bodden - 48
Baker - 45
Mayo - 52
Woods -52
Koppen - 52

I am not going to list every veteran but it could be figured out by looking at
USATODAY.com
and
BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Rap Sheet Blog Archive Which Patriots earned how much in performance-based pay?

Not only does AD gets paid for $130 per offseason workout session he gets another $100,000 for attending a set minimum. He earned the $100,000 last year by attending the minimum so we know that 44 is at least the minimum/

This whole being scared of the Jets thing is annoying already. They made some moves. I think we all see ADT on the Jets next year, who cares. The I95 rivalry is overblown. I'm more concerned about the Pats and the other 14 games they have to play before getting to the playoffs.

My opinion is just cut the bastard already and wash our hands of it and move on.

It's an unprovable point, but remember that Afailius' cap hit last year would have ballooned by $7M if they cut him, so they had to make room elsewhere. So it's not impossible.

But wouldn't this also be a little chancy, since any team he was traded to could then turn around and trade him to the Jets as was done with Kevin O'Connell? Isn't keeping him the only way that the Patriots can be sure that Thomas doesn't get to Rex?
I asked in another post but missed the answer, can football teams pay part of a player's salary in order to trade him--as the Red Sox seem to do on a regular basis with their unwanted shortstops? Would that be possible with Thomas?

See the Packers' trade of Favre to the JEST—if they allowed Favre to end up on another AFC North team in 2008, the JEST would have owed THREE first-round draft picks.

The Patriots could just as easily put a clause like that in a trade for Thomas (e.g., a 2011 6th that becomes a 1st if Afailus ends up on an AFC East team).

Agree completely. AD isn't going to improve the Jets anyway. If he ever shows up on the field, we should just run right at him.
