Biggests fear for this draft: we pick offense with 1st round pick

I feel optimistic regarding this draft, in general, as most of us do. 4 picks in first 2 rounds, deep draft for defensive players and receivers.

The only thing I don't like is the possibility that we take an offensive player with the 1st pick at 22. If we do that, there are too many players we covet that will quite possibly be off the board when we pick at 44. Unless we moved up from 44. And thats going to cost, obviously.

Odrick, Kindle, Graham, Hughes, Sapp, Williams, McCourty, will probably be gone at 44 if we take offensive player 1st. What offensive players that could slip or will be there will we be most tempted to take?
Bryant? Spiller? Matthews? Gresham? Tate? Mike Iupati?
Thoughts.

it depends on who they get with their 2nd round picks....you have to look at the whole picture

that said, who would stand to be there that the pats would use the #22 on?

spiller would be the only one I could see the pats picking with the pick.....

We have offensive needs too.

A #1 WR to replace Moss in 2011.
A #3 WR for 2010 if Tate isn't it.
A solution at RB.
A TE.
An OL upgrade to help preserve Brady.

We clearly have defensive needs too but we also have more young players on defense.

I expect almost all the players you mentioned to be on our 1st round board. We all have different views on who might be included and who might not. As another posted, we certainly have major needs at WR, TE, RB and RG.

Odrick is the only defensive players that you mention that for me would be a definite pick at 22. Some of us would even consider trading a second to move up to get him. I could see drafting Williams (a really top prospect), but I suspect that we would trade down if he were on the board; someone should be willing to pay bigtime for him.

There are a couple of good offensive players in this draft worthy of a 1st round pick. Some of these players could help our team greatly. I don't know how it could be your biggest fear if the team is improved by going with offesnive line,wr or rb?

Granted this team has needs on defense but this draft is top heavy with defensive talent all in the top half of the first to midway through the 2nd. I could see the team going either way at this point.

I'd have no qualms about taking offense at #22. I might actually prefer it. It really just depends on who's there though.

The only offensive player I would have an issue with in the 1st is Dez Bryant. From all accounts his stock is sliding, and will continue to slide. I pray to god he doesn't slide anywhere near th Pats pick. For anyone out there who despises the thought of bringing in Marshall, this kid would be even worse.

I'd rather take a offensive player earlier in a weak offensive draft and then take defense later where there is value.

I would have a problem if we took any player, offense or defense that is not; or does not project as; a three down player.

Based on the three down criteria I think we can eliminate punters and kickers. All other positions should be in play.

I would not draft Bryant with a Jets draft pick, but I really like Spiller. Not sure if he is a 3 down player, but he is a huge playmaker.

Bryant is off the Patriots board I am sure. The only good thing about drafting him would be that the axis of evil in the press (Felger, Borges, Callahan) would get to experience a truly rotten Big Receiver and quit whining about Moss, one of the greatest WRs to ever play the game who is getting treated in the Boston media the same way Ted Williams was during his tenure.

As I noted before, we do not want to draft anyone with a name like Dez. We need guys named something like Bubba, Mosi, Hoss, Dumbrowski, etc.

im not sure i fear. drafting offense. with #22 because. it would be Ryan Mathews, who would give the pats a real running game. that would help brady and the defense.


or Dez Bryant, gives the pats a good #2 or IMO the best offensive pick would be Mike Iupati, who would give the pats a good young O line with Sebastian Vollmer, and Logan Mankins, for the next 5 years or so. that would also make bradys Career a lil longer.



after Jared Odrick, i don't see any DE that can be a full time starter as a rookie. and Sergio Kindle, is the only 3 down OLB in the draft. so if both of them are off the bord and the pats can pick up one of dose 3 guys to help the offense. i say go for it.


there is a lot of OLB's that can be good 3rd down pass rushers as rookies in the 2th round.

I agree, going offense in the 1st round would be a mistake. Waiting 43 picks before taking a defensive player could seriously impede our chances to retool the defense. Their is a great opportunity to grab 2 defensive starters with 22 and 44. At the same time though, I think it would also be a mistake to not take offense with those last 2 picks in the 2nd round. Teams consistently reach for QBs, RBs, and LTs in the draft and with a poor crop of QBs and RBs, those positions will dry up quickly as teams scramble to grab them likely leaving a strong group of WRs and TEs in the late second and likely through the 4th round.

Bryant has signed with Eugene Parker, so you can cross him off your wish list. Plus I don't think he is worth a 1st. He has not played in over a year.....

C.J. Spiller is the only Offensive Player that I think that Pats should take if he falls to #22. Other than that take the best DE/OLB left on the board.

This is my biggest fear, too. I will be Extremely Pissed-Off if Bill takes a TE at 22...or at 44, 47 or 53. We'll be better-off, instead, if Bill signs Algae Crumpler and drafts a 7th-round TE and/or signs another (Scott Sicko?) as a UDFA.

you can make a case that we should take offense with 3 out the first 4 picks. The following players will be gone either next year or the year after:

1. Matt Light
2. Dan Koppen (Old and he is a drunk)
3. Steven Neil
4. Randy Moss
5. Kevin Faulk
6. Fred Taylor
7. Sam Morris
8. L. Maroney (sucks)
9. No TE
10. Not sure if Welker will be the same

Yeah...Drafting Offense is a nightmare??? That being said, this team is full of holes so I agree with the previous post, Just Draft a good player regardless of posistion!!!!
