I know that this is idiotic; the Patriots rarely trade up and it especially does not make sense in this year's draft but let's be a little silly on this one...

If the Patriots decide to trade up, say ten picks, in the first round, who would they take?

My vote would be Joe Haden, CB. A shutdown corner frees up an extra guy to blitz; this is how Rex Ryan can get away with it. I know that all you guys have some full-length-fur-coat-wearing, strip-club-attending, prima donna big wide receiver in mind, but a shutdown CB is more valuable. Or a pass rusher for that matter.

Note: I have to confess that Ty Law had a full-length fur coat....and he is one of my favorite players; the Patriots have never been able to replace his sticky hands in the secondary. Haden would and then some. 8 int's last year I believe.

You preface your post with a statement that it is 'idiotic' yet you still find the need to do it?

You don't have to make a post about every little insignificant thought that passes though your head.

This is not idiotic. The Patriots traded up for both Ty Warren and Mayo. I think it worked out well both times and BB would considerate it again under the right circumstances. However, this may not be the year to trade down. There are currently 53 players with first round grades. My bet is that they trade down from their first round spot for additional picks.

( I think BB would like a late 2, 3 and 5 for his first round pick at #22 ).

Hey, draft speculation is supposed to be fun, if a little dubious in this case.

It makes little sense to draft up this year when the Patriots have so many holes and it is such a deep draft, but if they did who would they target? Haden instantly gives the Patriots a defense that can send extra guys; it won't happen but it is fun to speculate.

The Patriots actually traded down before picking Mayo.

:agree::ditto::agree: (unless Spiller is there; or maybe miniSpiller, McClus...)

They probably won't be afforded the opportunity to trade down because teams are aware that there is no value in trading up with such a preponderance of similar talent at the end of the 1st. Unless some guy with a high grade slides a bit, I don't see it happening.

I don't think McCluster is going to go in the 1st , but he would be great value with the 1st pick of ours in the second, if he's still there. Or if we could acquire a higher 2nd rounder and some for our 1st.

I can't see moving up for anyone at this point.....would have been mcclain if not for his medical condition........beyond that, there are guys who will be there in the 2nd round who stand to be just as effective as guys who are picked in the 1st.......

God I hope they don't trade down their first rounder. I would NOT be happy. They should just take the guy they like "cough" Jared Odrick "cough" and move on. If there was one pick I wouldn't mind seeing them trade, it would be their original 2nd rounder. For a third and a fourth, I would have no problem with that.

i would consider trading up if a couple of player are there that we want...i would trade up for Haden, Dez Bryant, or McClain. I have a feeling McClain will drop to us like Wilfork did.

Trade up and get Suh. Our starting DEs are Warren and Wright. After that?

If Suh drops out of the top 3, go up and get him. I would trade our 1st and 3 2nd round picks for him.

Here's my 'idiotic' premise: BB will not trade up in the first round just because of "need," i.e. Dez Bryant, a DE or OLB. He might though if the value was too great to pass up, regardless of the player's position, like say a an Eric Berry falling to #20, or Suh not being taken by #10. So in other words, very unlikely.

All we have is opinions, but that is clearly the winner for the most ridiculously flawed theoretical draft plan.

Ever.

How so? Are you ready for Mike Wright to be our starting DE for a whole year? I didn't like how Baltimore ran down our throats and that's what we're going to see against the Jets and Dolphins twice a year with Wright in there starting.

You might like having a boatload of second round picks, but I prefer quality over quantity.

yea, i think he's going to slide too the more i hear people talking about his condition. The big question is would the Pats consider taking him if he's available, or would they think its too big of a risk since the already have Guyton anyway

I think he's too good to pass on personally, but there would be a lot of risk

They also have the raiders pick next year that they could use to swing a deal..

This draft is so deep, the Pats can afford to wait. In fact, someone is going to fall into their laps that was supposed to be a top pick.

Coughing will not get Odrick to last unitl 22.

Belichick may have to decide whether to use his 53 to move up to get the man he wants. The list of possibles might include Haden, Bryant, Tate, Odrick, McLain and Spiller.

Belichick has definitely moved up in the past.

The issue, as always is value. Many here think that we can simply stay we are and get starters in all of 1st five picks, including a starting TE in the 4th. It is a matter of philosophy, of judgement and of delusion.
