Broncos release ILB Andra Davis

Unless there's more to the story than just the Broncos deciding to go in another direction, Davis is a player who'd be worth bringing in to compete for an ILB spot.

Ditto.

Of course, if we were interested, you'd think McD would give BB a call and see if he could at least get a 6th or 7th out of him. After all, we basically did that with Hochstein and LeKevin for McD.

Definitely worth a flier IMO. Bring him to compete for a job at SILB. I thought he was pretty solid for Denver at ILB.

Does this signal a lot of interest in McClain from the Broncos? I think so.

I was thinking the same thing

exactly what I was thinking.

Go get him. He was fantastic for the Broncos last year, especially against the run.

Maybe JMD did and BB declined.

We rarely keep four "real" ILB's, but I'd certainly be fine with bringing him in to see if he can contribute. My guess is that an inexpensive run-stuffing veteran ILB would be most welcome.

Even assuming McKenzie is back healthy and able to contribute in his first full season, we only have 3 ILB's on the roster, and Guyton has some flexibility to move outside. Definitely worth bringing him in if he's interested.

Edit: I'm not counting Alexander as a real ILB. I consider him straight ST.

True, but that doesn't mean we couldn't, given the uncertain status of McKenzie and the fact that we could technically count Guyton among the OLB.

I'm fine witr keeping Davis as our 4th ILB. I see no reason to count one of our starting ILB as an OLB, where is he is not likely to play.

I agree. I'm just saying if they didn't want to keep more than say, 8 total linebackers (outside of ST aces), Guyton's versatility gives them more flexibility.

I was hoping that BB would go after him what was it two years ago when he was a FA. So yeah like someone said kick the tires.

I think he is a great pick up and would be a value. Here is another guy that was miscast and can be a perfect 5 technique DE,

"The Redskins have reportedly contacted the Rams about a potential trade for DT Adam Carriker.
Carriker has a connection with the Redskins, as new defensive coordinator Jim Haslett coached him in St. Louis. Though he's been injury-plagued the past two seasons, it's hard to picture the Rams trading the former first-rounder unless they go with a defensive tackle at No. 1 overall."

I mentioned that and of course, was torched.
Maybe Olsen and a WR (Santana Moss? still like the idea of Marshall) and I am happy. Now go to the Draft.

Somehow I read that as "we rarely keep four real linebackers". Said part is, I just nodded and went on.

Sorry, my honest reaction.:D:bricks:

Yeah, I think we can risk an ILB without worrying about going up to four real ones.

I agree that Carriker would be better as a 5 tech than his current role
However, Carriker has been pretty bad and injury prone. Not worth his contract + draft picks to trade for. Dwan Edwards or Marques Douglas are decent veterans available, or take a guy like Odrick or Houston in the draft

Has anyone discovered why, if Davis was so good last season, the Broncos would cut him? Was it money/value? A late-season injury? Doesn't fit their defensive system?

Broncos release LB Andra Davis - The Denver Post

Reading this, he sound like pure class. He played well last year, and I would feel great about a foursome of Mayo, Davis, McKenzie, and Guyton. He's wasn't making a boatload either, so I'd jump all over him.

It would also mean the Patriots could save one of their first four picks for DE, OLB, TE, etc., in other words, they wouldn't have to take a Sean Weatherspoon, and pop him into the 3-4 MIKE LB position (as much as I love Weatherspoon). They could fill other, more pressing needs.

Broncos fans still haven't figured it out. The best they've got is that Davis wore down as the season went on and McDaniels talked about major changes on the defense after it collapsed in the season's second half.

If thats the case the Pats should take a hard look at the guy, he would be an awesome fit hear as a 2 down run stuffer as Guyton would replace him in obvious passing situations.

Deus, Is he hurt? I can't see them not getting even a fifth rounder for him. Perhaps a substance suspension coming? Anybody know? It makes no sense. Would we have traded AD for him even up? I think so (pending $)

With his speed couldn't Guyton play OLB? Those were my thoughts. Who knows about McKenzie. Last year we were counting on Crable to make a difference. I don't think we are that set at ILB. I would take McClain if he was there.

Orange Mania is one of those sites that block you from viewing unless you're a member, so I haven't read there stuff. Here's a thread on Davis from a different forum:
