Somewhat disappointing. He ran the forty in 4.6 range but became sick during position drills. He later revealed that he has been battling Chrons Disease since his freshman year in high school. This might make him tumble in the draft. I however would still be thrilled if we drafted him.

Well I have colitis, so I definitely know what he's going through. Its tough because he will have a hard time keeping his weight on. Fitigue is another factor I'd be worried about.

If only Belichick were on speaking terms with his college Head Coach to see how it affected him on the field....

Why do you say that?

i kinda fell bad for the guy this will take him out of the top 15 at the very lest.

Wow, that's tough. Chron's can be unpredictable, with flare-ups and remissions. Kudos to him for managing it well through college, but realistically it has to affect his draft assessments.

Chron's disease is tough. You really have to watch what you eat, and like 2_law_4 said, keeping your weight up can be difficult during the flareups. And it's gotta be really tough if you have a flareup on gameday...

This will be interesting to see how far he falls because of this. I feel bad for the guy.

Fact is, he's been dealing with it for seven years now. Why do we expect it to suddenly become a problem because he's playing on Sundays instead of Saturdays...presumably with better resources to manage the condition?

BB: Nick, did Crohn's affect Rolando at all?
NS: No, in fact I never knew he had it. He never missed a practice or team activity.
BB: OK, thanks. If anybody else calls, make sure you tell him he needed extensive bloodwork every month and he got winded and sat himself out of portions of practice every day.
NS: You got it Bill. By the way, don't sleep on Deaderick.

Because it's an unpredictable autoimmune disorder characterized by remissions and flare-ups? And because it made him too sick to finish his pro-day workout? It has to enter into the risk equation for a high pick, IMO.

*chuckles* Perfect. Exactly the way I'd like to see it go down.

And because it made him too sick to finish his pro-day workout?

He led his team in tackles the last two seasons -- so his productivity hasn't suffered too much. And he ran two 40's in 4.68 and 4.69 after being sick for two or three days, simply because he didn't run at the Combine, and scouts were there to see him. And lots of prospects only participate in some of the Pro Day events, deciding instead to rest on their Combine numbers.

I remember when I thought it may be difficult to play football on the NFL level while missing your spleen. But that fact didn't prevent that prospect from being drafted in round two -- much to my surprise.

I doubt BB will be concerned...but am hopeful 21 other teams will be...

In my attachment it states how he was unable to finish his pro day work out. This is obviously a big concern. Horrible for the kid, but I wish him all the best!!!

DH 44 - you have show good intelligence in your posts....Think about what you just posted:
A) Because the level of competition at pro level well above that of collegiate level so you have to be 'fit for fight' as some say - at the top of your game physically and mentally.
b) Because pro season much longer than collegiate season.
C) because almost year round training schedule in pros places greater physical demands on body
d) because your body needs all its recuperative energies to heal from almost daily head on collisions with larger masses and higher speeds than in collegiate level
e) because the disease is totally unpredictable and can flair up at any time (think Herpes in this regard)
f) because he developed it at a young age (which according to my MRS who works with this patient group ) is not a good thing
g) because drugs are not always an effective treatment - some episodes yes, other times no
h) because we are not talking about taking a late round comp pick on him, we are talking about a first round pick and millions of dollars for damage goods.
i) because in this 2010 draft there are MANY good first round talents available
j) because football is one of the most taxing physical sports in the world
k) because Bill preaches consistancy and valuing consistant performance from his players over 'flashing'
l) and because crohns disease is an incurable, dehabilitating disease that causes pain, weight loss, dehydration due to diariah, and periodic surgury to remove parts of the infective intestines

If nothing else, he might have a good but short career in football, but from what my wife tells me, you can pretty much forget a career into the 30's unless he is an extremely one of the lucky ones (very infrequent relapses)

Have I said enough about why I would not gamble a first round pick on a unpredictable disease?

Nothing personal against you DH44 - just trying to educate the masses.

p.s. any doctors feel free to post any additions /corrections / opinions to the above.

Who said it was Crohn's that made him sick and unable to Finnish the drills?

David Garrard has Crohn's disease and seems to do just fine. Not as good for Chris Gedney.

Couple of NHL players have it.

check it out.....

Famous people with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative colitis - IBD

interesting- a Hungarian website. Always glad to hear celebrity stories of people who have 'overcome' their disabilities.

But read as much of the Wiki article as you can........and tell me you would without a doubt pick him in the first round over all the other great ballplayers in this talent rich draft. No doctor can tell you for sure what his near future outlook will be ....(but not finishing his Pro day because of it is not a good sign). Because this disease (and this player) is a big gamble ......pure and simple.......Give me Odrick at #22 please and save the gambles for the 2nd round (DE to 3-4 OLB conversions, people with character redflags, bodies with medical concerns and yes also McClain).

That article is 6 weeks old.. Things have changed since the signing of Wilfork..

or maybe not..

I still think the Pats will make a play for him if they value him.. This guy was a monster in college, limiting opponents running game.. Signing Wilfork to a NT contract, and moving him to RDE, saved the pats about 2-3 million year.. why not draft another NT and move wilfork out to RDE.. he has the size and speed.. Ngata did it and I think wilfork can.. plus we were really weak on run defense on the edges.. I'll be excited to see him here.. And see brace rotate in and out with the possibility of taking Warrens position in the future..
