Celtics trade for Nate Robinson

As long as there is not future 1st round picks involved, I am on board.

I guess we will be watching the big 3 until they are ready for a nursing home.

The Celtics in 5 years will not be a pretty site.

Seems like a high reward/low risk trade. House was not performing well, though I hate to lose him on a character level.

I'm not big on Robinson as an all-around player. He's just too damn small to play defense, and he's not a pure PG. But he can score, and will add a different dimension to the offense of the second unit.

I don't see how the deal could really hurt the team, at worst, it's a wash, with the possibility of a mild upgrade of the second unit.

Unfortunately, this team's problems are with its first unit - and an aging Big 3. Until Doc & the Big 3 hand this team over to Rondo & Perk - who are now the two best all-around players on this team - then the team will struggle. Or it may be a matter of those two guys stepping up.

Rondo pretty much has, but he needs the ball in his hands all through the 4th quarter. Rondo is an elite player in this league, a game-changer on both sides of the floor. He's a jumpshot away from being a top 10 player, but he's still good enough to take 3 aging stars and carry the team to a championship. The whole team just has to be on board for that shift.

The trade was viewed as really good over at the Celticsblog. I had read an article where they were comparing House's defense to that of a matador, and Robinson is an all around good scorer, although obviously not as good from beyond the arc.
I was thinking of all the Allan trade rumors. The team in which would have received Allen would have had the benefit of that expiring contract. Doesn't that mean the Celtics now have that benefit, as long as they don't re-sign him?

So now the Celtics will be able to win the three point contest AND the slam dunk contest?

That says it all ... it's what they need.
Especially if you can get some games where the 2nd unit wins it for you with the bigs sitting.

I'm not a big fan of this move. Robertson is a malcontent, while House was a bonafide charactor guy, who played his role perfectly on this team. His energy and leadership will be missed, as will his ability to stretch the floor with his exceptional shooting. Robertson is a good pick up and all, but I think people are going to see that talent, in a reserve role, doesn't always mean a better fit. House is a big loss IMO. Well, as big a loss as losing a reserve role player can be. I'd prefer they send Scal, and use Williams as a big off the bench.

I'd like to add, why not a Kevin Martin deal? The Kings got virtually nothing for Martin. Trade Ray ASAP if it means Kevin Martin wearing green.

I really like house as well and hated losing him BUT.....Our second unit is give the ball to Daniels and let him create or have Big Baby try and do something and trip over his own feet....Sheed can play the post or shoot the 3's.....House really was a 1 trick pony where as Robinson will be able to create on the second unit and give them more flexibility.....Plus he adds a ton of athleticism which is something this team lacks and it showed against the hawks every game this season.....Getting more athletic isn't a bad thing....i really like this trade all the way around from the house for robinson standpoint but I didn't want to give up Giddens and or Walker because I think they will be solid players one day...

I'm oversimplifying but it seems to me they gave up an older character role player for a younger point scorer with questionable character.

There's the potential that this could be a VERY good trade for the Celts.

Robinson is playing for a new contract. He's going to have to make an attitude adjustment and make the most of his minutes if he wants to cash in. That's not a bad situation for the Celts to be in, and they need the depth at Guard.

How this works out for the Celts is largely up to Robinson - but I'd go along with Ainge in taking the gamble that Robinson will understand it's in his best interest to be a team player in this fresh start.

Robinson is 25 and if he earns the playing time in the long-term can be a 20 point a game scorer, though whether he remains here on a new contract is still largely up to him and his attitude.

I don't disagree. I would have preferred moving Scal's contract, and keeping House is all. One for one, Robertson is the better player, but House's ability to play his role so perfectly, sucks to lose. Either way we're talking about a bench player. Important, but meaningless if the Celtics aren't completely healthy come playoff time.

I have a cap question. By not signing Allan next year, would the Celtics be in the running (with tweaking a few contracts/trades/cuts) for a big time free agent, like Chris Bosh? I would love to see him wearing green next year and think the Celtics could contend again with that addition.

Just saw on the news, we trade for this Robinson kid and he's not even playing yet??? Has the Flu??? House is knocking down 3 pointers already in NY...

I hope Bill Walker comes back after the season, personally. Ainge has talked about it.
