Because he was traded, he gets no signing bonus and evidently child support issues are pressuring him.

excerpt from article
NFL Network first reported Saturday that the Jets were advancing their newly acquired cornerback $500,000 to help clear up paternity issues.

The 25-year-old Cromartie has fathered seven children by six women in five states. He has a court date scheduled for later this month in California.

Cromartie, acquired last week from San Diego, is due to make $1.7 million in the last season of his five-year, $12 million contract. The Jets reportedly made $500,000 of the deal into a bonus, allowing Cromartie to receive it now, instead of when players receive game checks in September.

Oh wait, I forgot he was traded, not signed as a free agent.

I don't wake up before 10 a.m. ;)

Having a family reunion would be a logistical nightmare for this idiot. Great "character guy," that Cromartie. I think we should throw diapers at him when he visits Gillette.

Its an understatement to say that this guy was out of control.

Wow, apparently he has never heard of birth control...

Yes, and his $12M contract is down to the last $1.7M. The Jest are converting part of his salary to bonus since he's short of cash to support his brood (not to mention his agent). Needless to say, he's not got himself in hand...

throw him condoms as well with an instruction manual on how to use them! The Pull and Pray method doesnt work!!

I don't want to turn this into a political thread, but I just don't understand why guys like this don't wear condoms. Everybody makes mistakes, but don't they learn anything after the first one?!?! I'd rather have a little less sensation than have a kid with a woman I wasn't planning on seeing again the next day. Sheesh.

I laughed when I read this article and realized the absolute ridiculous nature of the whole thing. So as usual, a dumbass athlete who ****s everthing in sight gets everything taken care of by the stupid team that is salivating over his athletic abilities. Makes me want to puke. Can you imagine if a co-worker of yours went to your boss and asked him for his salary upfront so he could pay child support? Why the hell doesn't the Jets just set up his paychecks to automatically draw to give money to all his kids?

Who loses out in all this, oh yeah, the kids who as they get older get to be reminded of this great line their Father of the Year was quoted as saying,

"I made some wrong decisions in my first two years in the NFL and now I have to take on that responsibility of being a father to my kids," Cromartie said during a conference call Friday after the trade. "That's what I have to do."

Way to make those kids feel loved... by calling them wrong decisions you numbskull.

Another reason why I don't feel one iota sad when I hear athletes complaining about how they are not wanted when a team doesn't pay them what THEY think they are worth.

You'd think after the 4th freaking kid this idiot would see that. I have no sympathy for such a moron. I don't know how you can dip your **** uncovered so many times but have fun dealing with the consequences I guess.

So just to clarify, are you saying that fathering 7 kids with 6 women in 5 states is a good idea? Or that it was a series of bad choices, but he just shouldn't admit as much?

A wise decision by the Jets. Anybody who has these kind of problems in his head will not be able to give his best on the field. A happy Cro is a productive Cro.

*Pulp Fiction style*

CONDOMS, MOFO, HAVE YOU HEARD OF THEM?!

I wonder if some people here, when talking about how great this guy is aren't confusing him with Rodgers-Cromartie ? His rookie year was something, but since all these distractions started he's average at best. Put him in NYC, with the night life and he could help reverse the trend of population decline. Don't think he'll help Jets though
