Its great seeing #75 locked up for the next few years.. And this got me to thinking.. Last year during the Pats and Dolphins game, we saw Vince moved to RDE to combat Pat White running the wildcat.. I dont' have stats or video of the game but I recall him basically shutting down the side and getting to the backfield quite a bit..

What are the chances, in a deep NT draft or Jamal Williams sitting out there, of Vince moving to the position next and bringing in a new NT?

My reasoning is:

1. Wilfork is a big guy but definitely athletic and i know it was only one game but he played great during that game

2. The draft is deep at the position and bringing in a Cody, Williams or Price would save us money in the long run because DT make less than DE.. And we have wilfork signed up as a NT for the next 5 years.. So in the Grand Scheme, we probably are saving money

3. Nagta plays the same position and along with Kelly, make up one of the best front 3 in football..

Just some food for thought..

As a DE, Vince makes a great NT. He played DE against Miami for a matchup with Jake Long. That is all.

Was there any other bodies of work to look from other than that game? Im sure there are other LT's that are close to Long in terms of build etc..

You guys are missing the point here. Jake grove the starting center who is a mamoth of a guy was out with injury. hence a back up smaller center was playing.

so he was moved to end to matchup better than green who is a tad smaller.
you cannot count always on a smaller backup center to play.also vince took around 2yr to develop and now you want to develop into a RDE. that is nutz why cannot you draft a big DE and have him play 3-4 end.

this is not madden.you do not develop a all pro talant and after 2 probowl and in the peak say move him into another position so you can develop another guy?..

That, pretty much. Can top-tier NTs become top-tier DEs? Sure, Haloti Ngata did it. But Wilfork would be pretty slow for a DE, and we'd just be creating a hole at NT that would expose Guyton even worse than he's exposed already. We're much better off just finding a DE who can play.

maybe for a few plays a game but not full time the pass rush would be pretty bad.

the pats need to draft a seymour type to play DE. great vs the run. can get to the QB a lil and gets double teamed.

It just doesn't make sense at this point of his career when he's developed into a Pro Bowl NT. Mike Wright is great guy to have who had a good season, and there are a good amount of guys in the draft who we can get at DE. The one guy I really want is Carrington.

maybe, but we shoulnt have to bring in a new NT, we have pryor and brace waiting

Great answer.

I know there is no chance we get him but was just wondering if people thought Suh is a good Seymour comparison in terms of coming out of college.

I gotta chuckle when I hear people says "its not Madden".. But we all thought the possibility of moving Tank Williams down to LB might be a great idea.. As I recall it gave us "flexibility"..

Actually its not a crazy idea considering we all preach flexibility with our defense, isn't this why we like OLB who are 6-4 and close to 270 pounds.. So they can play with their hand on the ground and play in space?

I for one think Wilfork has the ability to play both positions..

Suh could play 3-4 DE, but Seymour was the proto-typical 3-4 DE. If you asked someone to describe their perfect 3-4 DE, it would be Seymour.

I think Suh looks a better prospect though. Which is saying something.

You think Suh is more suitable for 4-3 DT? I just saw lots of similarities between him and Seymour.

VW also played RDE in the 2nd half against the Ravens. Green was getting steamrolled on just about every play in the first half, and BB had to do something.

Again not a question of ability .Now we have probabily the best young NT in the league .Now when you play him at 3-4 End will he be the best young 3-4 END - Nope or his replacement be the best NT in the league no.

so what you have done is taken 1 very strong position and 1 weak position to create 2 weaker positions.Vince is low and big and the issue is he will not geneate any pass rush at END.

brace is taller than vince and heavier than all our DE , he has the size to be a RDE.NT usualy take time to develop and are hence older guys in the league.
this year if brace plays avg he is going to be the match up that will help us alot against bigger tackles. also this mean wright.pyor will be our
nickle rush 3-4 end which is going to help pass rush by keeping them fresh.

i would draft a smaller DE to play OLB in 3 downs.

Height and arm length has to come into play at some point, as do technique, leverage and footwork. Seymour had everything down perfectly.
