They've gone from Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant to Michael Clayton, Maurice Stovall, Reggie Brown and Sammie Stroughter in two years. That group puts the Pats' WR issues in a bit of perspective, doesn't it?Yep. So who are they're starting WR's Clayton, and Brown?

I wish the Pats were this aggressive.Per Rotoworld, the Bengals are bringing in both T.O. and Bryant on Tuesday for a visit. That should be interesting to say the least.
While I agree that we should always be thankful when comparing any of our positions to the doormats of the NFL, I think if we signed any of these guys besides Stroughter, we'd be mildly pleased.
Reggie Brown was a 2nd rd pick, who had 5 catches for 94 yds and 1 TD in his very first start. In his second start he caught 2 TD's in the first half alone. He went on to lead all rookie WR's with 571 yds in 2005.
In 2006, he became the #1 wideout for Philly, averaging over 17 yds a catch. In 2007, he caught 61 passes for almost 800 yds.
In 2008, he lost his role to rookie superstar, and one of the best up and coming WR's in the game DeSean Jackson.
I wouldn't claim him as total garbage just yet because he lost his job to DeSean Jackson. This is the kind of trade I would've been alright with. A chance to re-develop a WR who has shown flashes in his career for a lousy 6th round pick in 2011. After all, Gaffney wasn't exactly tearing it up in Philly either when we grabbed him, and some had labled him a bust too.
Michael Clayton is listed at 6'4", was drafted in the 1st rd at #15 overall, and had a great rookie season in 2004. Although he hasn't done much since, he has very decent size, and likely hasn't been used to the best of his abilities with a revolving carousel at QB on a crappy Tampa team. His size and raw talent could still be of some use to someone I'm sure.
Maurice Stovall is listed at 6'5", is an accomplished gunner on special teams, and is deeply religious and humble, a rarity in today's NFL, where many WR's are prima donnas. He was named to USA Today's 1st team high schoolers, and later appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated at Notre Dame. When Weis became their coach in 2005, he helped him flourish at the position, catching 11 TD passes--many which were acrobatic. He tied a Notre Dame record with 4 TD catches vs. BYU, and was picked in the 3rd rd. They gave him a original rd tender (3rd rd) this year.

Again, I'm thankful for our guys, but seeing as Tampa isn't exactly known for developing great wideout talent, I don't think many of us would've minded any of these 3 as competition for an immediate positional problem at WR. We had an immediate need last year, before the loss of Welker, and TE Watson, who Brady would look to in times of trouble. Considering Moss is only about 2/3 rds of the WR he could be with another threat to stretch the field (see 2007), and now Welker has a high probabilty to miss half of the upcoming season, I'm not sure we shouldn't be looking for some servicable 'misses' who may be acquired cheaply. We all know that raw talent + better coaching + a change of scenary can = success with a good franchise QB.
These guys actually may have something to offer, seeing as how we're highly unlikely to spend on top tier WR talent this year in FA. It's not like I'm in love with the Tampa Bay WR's, but wherever there's a decent opportunity--I'm all for it.
Not to mention, we shouldn't be ripping on anyone's WR core right now. We don't have much room to talk.
Thoughts???
