According to Mike Reiss...

Re: Pats visit with Marques Murrell - LB formerly with the Jets..

the pats all ways find at less one JAG every year that helps the team maybe he is one 6.2 250lbs only 24

Re: Pats visit with Marques Murrell - LB formerly with the Jets..

Whats up with these ex-Jets that the team is looking at?

The past few years proved this team has had bad luck with Jets rejects.

Probably much of the same here with this JAG

So you're saying that we can get a peek at the waiver wire some 20 weeks early...

Thanks.

Sounds like a STer or practice squad guy.

6'2 250. At least he has the size for ILB, hard to say how good he is. He has bounced around a bit since the Eagles signed him as a UDFA in 2007. Hey it's about time we got a linebacker from the Eagles for once instead of vice versa, don't you think Box? *EG*

The Jets could have tendered Murrell, but chose not to.

At his size, he could be a good fit at ILB.

His numbers from the 2007 Pro Day:
Height: 6'1 5/8"
Weight: 245

10: 1.67
20: 2.79
40: 4.86
20 Shuttle: 4.3
Vertical: 30.5"
Broadjump: 9'10"
3 Cone: 7.21

He was benched half way through last season.

Sounds good to me, bring him in!

Visions of the Victor Hobson debacle flash in my mind.

Has been a core Jets ST guy the past few seasons.

He's pretty versatile as well. Jets used him as both a stand-up LB and a rush-end in a few games in their sub packages.

36 sacks in college (1AA Applch St.) and his brother was an NFL RB for the Rats.

Could he be the promised one who supplants Eric (the survivor) Alexander?

Zero sacks in three seasons in the NFL. Replacing Alexander, like you said, would be the most likely scenario. Thomas Williams is also in the running for that.

Of course we aren't getting him for that reason, which is why I specified it was 1AA (though three time champions recently).

It's the Cherry on top, not the ice cream, he looks like a marginal NFLer now.

It is worth noting that not including our top rushers McGinest and Colvin, Bruschi and Vrabel set pass rushing records, a big reason for our success at linebackers getting pressure from all over.

Of course he'll be lucky to catch on at special teams, but I'd love to have a linebacker in development on special teams for a change(besides Woods, though he seems to have plateaud).

Most famous accomplishment in the NFL

In 16-13 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on October 18, 2009, Murrell and fellow Jet James Ihedigbo threw punches at Bills Tight End Derek Fine, prompting Murrell to be fined by the NFL for $5,000 and be benched, along with Ihedigbo, by Head Coach Rex Ryan for the following game against the Oakland Raiders on October 25, 2009 [1].

He's a good special teamer who flashed a bit in preseason, but never did it in real games. Also, his size makes him an ILB in the 3-4, but he's really more of an edge player than an inside guy. He'd be better off as a 4-3 DE

I don't think he's worth the paper on which his contract would be printed.

Akin Ayodele is my #1 SILB target. He'd prob. be willing to play STs again, too.

A replacwement for Alexander!

Ayodele is washed up, he looked awful last year.

I''d be willing to bet that he can get ahead of crable and woods on the depth chart, but that''s about it

But he's still gotta be better than Alexander & Murrell...right?

Alexander and Murrell are pretty much special teams guys only. Ayodele most likely wants an opportunity to play either as a starter or as a backup who gets a fair number of snaps. I highly doubt he signs anywhere to be a special teams guy who sees less than 5 defensive snaps per game and he's not really good enough anymore to warrant significant playing time on defense (on a good team anyway).
