Looks like it could be a dark day in New England if Sirius report is accurate.

With Bodden having dinner with the coach last night and still in Houston the next day, things are not looking good in the Pats secondary.

Lets hope for a sudden negotiating problem with the Texans and Bodden but I don't think the Texans let Dunta Robinson go if they were not going to go after Bodden very aggressively and knowing that thier team could be on thier way to taking the South this season if thier secondary gets a solid CB.

The Pats will not pay $8 Million for Bodden or they would have tendered him,The Texans look like they will pay him more than if he was tendered here.

he's not worth 8M

I know he is not worth 8 Million...and Julius Peppers is not worth 13 Million either.

There is alot of crazy money floating around this uncapped season.

Agreed. Would have been nice to lock him up last year but it didn't happen.

throwing money at any corner is a waste until they can pressure the QB

Who should we get to start at the other corner if this happens?

maybe he is worth it. CB's are expensive. Signing a known talent like Bodden costs $$$$

I would throw some serious money at Asomugha if Davis would be crazy enough to trade him away.

If Bodden signs with the Texans, it is a loss. But it isn't an insurmountable loss. Bodden is not Darrelle Revis. He was arguably the Pats' best CB last year, but he is replacable. It hurts, but doesn't kill this team. The team's fortunes are not resting on whether they resign Bodden or not.

It does put a bigger priority on CB though.

ya.....ok....I agree with that......still need a pass rush tho

Darius Butler on one side for sure...... Shawn Springs and his old ass starting at the other corner with Wilhite backing him up and maybe a 1st or second round rookie as well,Wheately would be a surprise to me if he is not cut by TC -....THATS SCARY .

I sure hope we look immediately at any vet CB in FA if Bodden is off the shelf

Give him back his 2011 pick. Asomugha for Seymour. Asomugha would need to redo his contract though because he is contract has some poison pills going on them. He has two years left and a no franchise clause.

I read somewhere where DeShea Townshend might be a looksie for the Pats.

Anyone more familiar with this ex-Steeler?

The Pats did give the guy a tender offer a few years back when he was a RFA and the Steelers matched it. Belichick loves the guy. A bit older, a little worn on the treads. Still might be a good one year stopgap.

He is 35 and the Steelers are not going to resign him,He could be extremely cheap at his age but I think we need some speed back there and don't think at his age he will be what we need but seriously,he can't be worse than Springs at this time.

Your point is 100% accurate. I'll looking at FAs and signings from 4 different angles and trying to determine what a FA is...

1. Value to the Team
2. Worth to the Team
3. Market Demand
4. Payroll Ranking within team.

I look at value being what this player does for you that is incredibly important to your team. We can all agree that VW has tremendous value to the defense. Bodden. A good deal, but not great. Worth- If you were to sign Bodden and trade him (like a commodity or asset) what is his worth to you and to other teams. Wilfork- substantial. Bodden- good amount. With market demand, it looks like Bodden is going to get big money. As it relates to the Pats, (IMO) their value and worth assessment is lower than the market. Payroll. By dishing out potentially $8m for Bodden, the Pats are saying that he is their 2nd most important defensive player. IMO I don't see it.

This is exactly what I am thinking. Bodden is not that irreplaceable.

The Pats answered the question of whether Bodden is worth 8 Million by NOT tendering him

Yep, that's exactly what the depth chart would be ... at this point.

Bodden is a good corner and I want him back, but remember he did get benched after the Denver game.

I hope to get Bodden back but I wouldn't call it a "dark day", that's reserved for far better players. I read that someone on Sirius said last week that Lito Sheppard is interested in coming here, he'd be a viable option - though certainly not an exciting upgrade, he's at least competent.
