NY Post: Pats could make run at Leon Washington

I still don't see it happening but if the Pats are interested, I don't see BB having a problem with inserting a "poison pill" into the offer.

How hard is it to be a sports journalist?

Seriously.

These rumors are the start of all debates on this forum, it looks like.

That said; if true, better him than LT.

I am all for this, it would only cost us our lowest of the 3 - 2's and it would save us from having to spend the high #2 on Best as Faulk's replacement assuming Kevin walks.

Leon can bring it, what a great addition to the offense that would be.

maybe when his knee is 100%, but even then, I would rather draft jahvid best

This day and age, I'm against spending higher than a 3rd round pick on any running back, unless he is an absolute phenom. Washington would help our return game, and be a nice younger version of Kevin Faulk, but that's not worth a 2nd rounder IMO.

We have bigger needs on OFFENSE alone (WR, TE, OL), let alone the rest of the team too.

Wouldn't make sense to me.

Don't think he's worth a 2nd especially because we would have to pay him to get him to come here. If we did sign him it would leave the Jets with only 1 rb so that would be nice.

He had a compound fracture, so for him to retain the same speed and explosiveness is a big question. However, he has consistently given us trouble (read: Welker). So I wouldn't mind having him if the price isn't too high.

Makes no sense unless to screw with Fatso.

Washington will be 29 this season. He wanted a contract in the range of 5 Mil per season. Kevin Faulk is back for 1 more season. This is supposed to be the best draft in ages. Why give up picks and why give them to your mosted hated rival?

NE could draft Faulks replacement and get a younger player 4 years on the cheap.

This is muy interesante!

"Any team that needs help at running back -- especially if that team drafts in the lower portion of round two -- should be thinking about Washington," the report says.

That doesn't even qualify as a rumor. Hmmmm... there are about 25 teams that could use help at running back, especially with a versatile guy like Washington, and then there are 16 teams in the lower portion of round 2. Yeah, they nailed it. The Patriots are in hot pursuit right now because one guy speculates there could possibly some interest from certain teams if certain conditions are met.

Best job in the world imo. Make stuff up that you found on forums so that it can then be discussed on forums as though it was fact. Money for old rope as my dear old dad likes to say

If they trade for Washington, they really have their priorities messed up.

If they could get rid of Adalius Thomas for Washington I'd be all for it, though I'd prefer to get draft picks for Thomas.

I think we'd all love to add a Leon Washington type of player. But coming off that injury and with him wanting a contract extension, why would the Pats give up a 2nd for him? You can have a guy like Best or McCluster in the draft in the 2nd round at a cheaper price with a similar skill set.

Washington could do a whole heck of a lot with Brady as his QB. The guy can run, catch, and return (and return for TDs). I got concerns about his ankle, but I wouldn't be opposed to trading for him. He is more than just a change of pace back. Adding him would strengthen this team and hurt the Jets who would be left with an unproven starter as their only RB.

I wouldn't advocate trading for Washington, but wouldn't violently oppose it either. The guy could be a Brian Westbrook type of back in this offense.

How's that broken leg doing?

I'm no doctor but it seems to me that coming back from a broken leg would be much easier and quicker than coming back from major knee reconstruction (torn ligaments). One of the major weaknesses of last years team was explosiveness.. they really lack game changers. Washington could certainly help in that area even if he's not a good blocker. I'd have no problem if they picked him up.
