Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

Deus Irae made the post of the day in another thread:

"If they wouldn't pay 7mil/year for Boldin, why would they pay 8mil/year for Bodden?"

Makes no sense.

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

i hope Leigh Bodden will stay with us, really

Very simple - CB are worth more than WR. I don't know if actual contract numbers bear that our but the draft does, a top CB is worth more than a top WR.

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

I'm more worried about the Texans overpaying than the Steelers. Would the Steelers overpay?

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

if I remember right, weren't they originally trying to lock him up to a 4 yr deal, but he opted for the one year to put himself on the market?

Nope. Steelers are just like us with their pennies.

I'm glad we're taking care of our own during DA, something that could have been done a month ago. But I'm glad to period to add proven talent is subsituted for re-signing our own.

I'll be amazed if we keep Bodden, I bet you his price is going to jump too high.

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

If the Pats can re-sign Leigh Bodden, then our FO should be regarded as the best in the league so far this off-season.

Really? Because they've been able to re-sign guys that were part of a 10-6 roster? If they don't re-sign them then this roster is now 8-8.

Re: La Canfora: Pats making late push for Bodden - Texans and Steelers in it

The Steelers? Really? Something is telling me that they have no interest in Bodden and are simply trying to drive up the price.

Did you see their secondary last season?

They shouldn't spend alot on Bodden. Polamalu is the biggest game changing defensive player in the league, without him they were mediocre. (Madden curse strikes again).

Yes it does. Would you really want to make a large,,,,, long term financial investment on a WR who will be 30 in seven months and has a long history of injury problems especially chronic hamstring problems and plays with reckless abandonment. Many times these WRs burn out fast. The odds are good that Boldin never sees the the end of his deal with the Ravens. He might not see year three of the four years he is still under contract.

Sign Bodden and then trade Wilhite for their 1st round. Sounds fair to me. :D

Yeah, but I think it will improve when Polamalu returns to the starting line-up. They just aren't the kind of team that would go after a high priced free agent. They never are. They do their rebuilding through the draft, which is why I'm suspicious about this. I buy the Texans. With the Steelers, it just sounds like they are trying to drive up the price on an AFC rival.

They've made moves in the past, see James Farrior, Justin Hartwig, Mewelde Moore.

Bodden will get close to $9m and Texans will overpay since the coach and owner there think they're close to make the next leap in their division.

Suffice to say re. Bodden - - He gone.

EDIT : And that the Texans lost Robinson yesterday.

The Texans aren't going to pay more than the Falcons did for Robinson. :D

Robinson is way overrated. Firstcouple yrs he was good. Last 4 in the toilet and that's with a strong pass rush front, ie Mario Williams

Bodden is better than Robinson, and will get the $$. Plus another AFC team improves, and this time raids the Pats

Well their secondary isn't exactly pristine especially without Troy Polamalu when he was injured and Ryan Clark might sign somewhere else, which leads to my point that you could argue they need safety help more than corner. I'm not familiar with their corner and safety depth.
