WR needs

We need to find a #2 WR in FA that is a durable, 1,000 yard guy that can be a good transition for a rookie such as Golden Tate.

Any ideas?

Mason has less miles on him than Randy Moss. I could see a 2 year contract.

Mason didn't really start games until 2000/2001. Moss of course started in 1998.

I think Moss is a solid #1 and Edelman will be good in the slot. If we can find a #2, Tate can probably be the #4.

WR's ( Boldin, Burleson, Walter ) went pretty quick yesterday. There is Chris Chambers, who was cut by the Chargers last season. There is Antonio Bryant, who has been a locker room problem at times. There is T.O and Derrick Mason, but they are both 36 years old.

Randle El has caught 50 or more balls three consecutive years and he is only 30 years old, so I guess he gets my vote. Reluctantly.

Josh Reed has never gotten 600 yards in a year. Not exactly a #2 guy, IMHO.

Focus on the draft. The Patriots have plenty of ammo.

Trading down or up or trading Adalius for a 4th will give them plenty of picks.

You can do this: drop down from 22 to 32 for a 3rd. Trade 44 and 47 for a 1st and 3rd. Trade Adalius for a 4th or 5th.

The Patriots can literally make all sorts of maneuvers to end up with a draft day haul like this:

This is the deepest draft for WRs that I can remember. If a kid like Damian Williams is there in the 2nd, you might take him. Otherwise you can wait until the 3rd for say Mardy Gilyard and then go WR again in the 4th or 5th. There are plenty of guys available this draft, and if you bust on one, you'll hit on another. That's how deep it is.

By the way, Mardy is not going to bust in the NFL, and neither is Golden tate.

I can't guarantee you that Damian Williams will pan out, but the kid looks good.

There are bust potentials in guys like Arrelious Benn and Brandon LaFell but that wouldn't necessarily dissuade me from taking them.

when your old your old playing time dose not mean a thing. and mason is 36 i can see hime haveing maybe 60 rec and 700 yerds this year. pretty good #3 but aftter that he is done.

Mason would be an amazing pick up..... He is exactly what we need, a great route runner. The perfect backside complement to Moss. I prefer him to anyone available, that included Boldin. I hope him and his wife decide to come here this time around!

Mason would be the ideal stop gap along with Patten giving us two guys who play the game the way it should be, all in, and one thoroughly familiar with the system. Branch would be another stop gap who could easily be the #2 heading into this season and #3-4 if there is a 2011 season or in 2012 if not. Mason may not have more than a year left, Patten may not have that. But Mason is durable and while he's taken a beating of late he still muster's game (or as our QB says he pushes through it). That makes him a shining example for some youngsters like Tate and hopefully a second round WR...

If we entered the season with Moss, Mason, Branch, Edleman and Tate/Rookie/Patten we'd be in good shape pending a midseason or even later return of Welker. And if there is a 2011 we'd be entering that season with Welker, Branch, Edleman, Tate and a second year WR...

I like you post. I think there is great value in a guy like Mason who is smart enogh and good enough to do his job and for a reasonable price.

there are tons of guys in the draft...blair white in the 5th/6th...a guy from central michigan forgot his name but he had 300 all purpose yards in his bowl game against troy in the 5th 6th...damien williams i THINK would be good in the 2nd.

Carlton Mitchell in the 2nd, would be good I believe.

Agreed ... but I think we'll have 6 WR on the 53 this year. Just my honest guess.

Mason seems to fit the bill. But we need to spend a high draft pick on a rookie WR, IMHO, for the long term.

Off the top of my head, the last time we had a rookie starter penciled in was Mankins.
