Mort: Pats wanted Boldin, but only on 1-year deal like Moss

We would give up a draft choice (high 3rd - requiring a second trade) for a one year player? OKay, if I risk an injury player ........ I'd go with Branch for considerably less in pay and the draft choice. Maybe just pick up Coles ........

If we were to risk losing Boldin/Moss in 2011 it must mean we are drafting at WR at least once and high. I wouldn't be surprised if we traded up for Dez Bryant. Otherwise, we'd be screwed in 2011 ........... not our style.

Marshall :D

I'm really disappointed that I did not wake up to Boldin being a Pat.

Don't worry. According to some of the resident experts on this forum, he's a stiff. :D

Unless you got to see the injury report sent out to the whole league on Boldin I'd hazard a guess that there are more to this than has been reported. Id bet he has a concussion problem (considering recent press I can see why), and reports probably show he is a broken man.

A fact that people are missing, there are 30 other teams thats could have signed him at this so called 'cheap price', yet very few tickled the bollocks of Boldin's agent.

Ask yourselves why?

He did break his face a little over a year ago. I still wish we'd signed him anyways, but oh well. As long as we get Mason and/or Branch I'll be fine w/ it.

So I take it Boldin wanted a new contract guarantee from the team he was going to be traded to? Usually I thought it was the opposite way around where teams usually want a new contract like the Roy Halladay trade this is rather interesting... I suppose if the Patriots couldn't come to a contract agreement after they traded for him they could have franchised him next year.

NO Branch pls. He is DONE!

Sorry the Pats screwed this up... This could have gotten done, what kind of message are they sending to Brady?? Second a second round pick to them for him, and get the deal done .... I was fooled when I heard they were interested.. Im not upset about Peppers, this is someone who could have helped the offense and would not have cost a lot...

I'll defend the Patriots decision not to pay the ridiculous money that Peppers got. I'll defend the team's not paying the money to Antrel Rolle.

If not giving Boldin a contract was the only reason the deal didn't get done, though, there's really no defending that, given Moss' contract status. I hope this is not the case.

I guess it sends the same message that he got before the 2006 season.

Only difference , Brady had a signed contract, he is entering his last year this time..

Either way, he's probably not thrilled this morning or whatever time it is there. But FA season ain't done yet by a longshot.

I kind of am on the Patriots side on this one. I has said that I wanted them to be aggressive this off season, and by showing that they were intereted in Boldin and even made an offer makes me happy. I would have loved to have seen Boldin as a Patriot, but if we needed giving up 3 draft picks for him, 2 this year and 1 next I think that is too much to ask for one guy. I dont know what he was demanding money wise, like if he wanted a restructing of his deal right away. I would have been nice to pay him his $3 million for this year and then depending on his play decide what to do with him but that isnt happening and to be honest I am not disappointed. They Pats value theri draft picks and if it meant giving 1 up to get Boldin they'd do it, but when your asked to give up 3 that is just too much.

They still do need to address the WR position though and I am hoping through FA. I still say that they should go after Antonio Bryant.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but shouldn't you find out the facts first? The Ravens traded their 2010 3rd and 4th round picks to the Cardinals for Boldin and a 2010 5th round pick. The Patriots would not have been giving up 3 picks to get Boldin. Given the terms of the Ravens deal, it is likely that the Patriots would have traded a 2010 2nd for Boldin and a 2010 3rd or 2010 4th. The terms of Boldin's new contract are readily available (I actually posted them earlier in this thread): Boldin signed a 3 year 25 million dollar extension, which means his contract for the next 4 years totals 28 million dollars (10 million in guarantees).

I apologize in advance for this but after reading this post first thought that came to mind was 'sheep'. The Pats FO loves you that's for sure. Your understanding of what we had to give up is way off but that was addressed in the previous post so I will let that go. Here is the truth in simplified terms.

I am just a lowly fan and I know that Boldin's gripe in AZ has been a new contract. So if that is what he was looking for what made our FO think he would accept a one year deal? Especially when you know other teams would offer more then one year. I mean come on. That's like trying but not really. If we wanted him we had to know it had to be more then a one year deal. So in the end our FO gave the illusion that we tried.

We had a chance here to be formidable and have someone that we can pair up with Welker next year when Moss decides to leave. Baltimore signed Boldin for what I thought was something we could've offered. It was a straight forward situation with Boldin and we in this case were D**ing around. That's not what you do if you want a guy of that caliber to join you. You want to kick the tires thats one thing but for any of us to say that they tried? They did not try. Attempt in futility really and I'd even take is afar as arrogance.

Love the pats and am happy they are starting to take care of their own but their attempts in this case were weak at best.

P.S. Same exact thing with Pepper we told him to get back to us if none of those rich contracts didn't work out. I mean really?

+ 1. The more details that come out about this deal and what the Pats offered, the more amazed and pissed I get. BB better damn well have another plan in the works, because the Pats' apparent lack of real effort in trying to get Bolden is staggering given our WR situation.

People need to remember that all the teams who "didn't tickle his agent's nuts" don't have Julian Edelman as their second best receiver and Sam Aiken penciled in as a starter to begin the season.

Jeez, Boldin must have some qualities that BB really doesn't like, because it makes zero sense that they weren't willing to pony up more for Boldin, especially after you've given TBC a long-term deal with 4-6 million per.

Maybe they thought Boldin only played at a high level the past couple yrs due to great WRs around him? I don't know, I really don't get it, especially with WWW a big "?".

We didn't sign any beasts Patjew (well none that weren't already Pats) :(

the fact that they did not trade for him i can get over. im sure there was a lot of fans pissed off when the pats got moss, for only a 4th round pick.

but why would u only want to give him a one year deal. the pats don't have a 3rd round pick so it would have been a 2th. so now after Boldin, puts up big numbers playing next to moss, he will want 10 million a year.

so your right back at square one after he walks and now u don't have that 2th round pick that could have been a good young WR

I'm getting ready to drink away my sorrows. But there is still time to sign some lesser-beasts.

Umm, maybe I'm missing something here. Boldin wasn't a free agent. The Patriots could have traded for him and had him play here next year without redoing his contract. The Patriots may or may not have been willing to redo his contract, but once again, he isn't a free agent, so what leverage, other than being a whiny little biatch does he have if they trade for him?
