Just wondering i they even bothered waking up for this free agency crap.

Remember they had all this time to sign their best pass rusher, best corner etc.

And have yet to do it.
Of course we heard that they wont sign fa's since they have their own guys to sign, which they still have not.

Hope something happens but when the Pats are aggressive they usually are on the first day.

Otherwise its an offseason of fernando bryants and sam aikens.

Last year on Day 1 the Pats landed Fred Taylor and Chris Baker. How did that work out?

Sometimes, moving quicker than everyone else isn't the best move.

I'm starting to wonder if they even try any more.

do you think Peppers is worth it because I don't. He'll get his money and get lazy. Bodden I would like us to resign but who knows what bb is doing. Dansby would be a great addition but not at 30m guaranteed.

who else would you like us to go get?

Wow. It's not even lunch time on the first day. As far as I can tell, no big moves have been made, unless you count Nate Burleson as a big move.

Remain calm, all is well. No need to start second guessing the offseason before it's even began.

Someone will have to remind me, how many big name FA's (or hell, even middle-tier FA's) have signed with teams already?

Sometimes I think if half the posters on this forum were to up and disappear, it would be a much better place.

Clearly the Patriots front office has either given up or is intentionally sabotaging the team. I would be surprised if they even field a full 53 man roster. They're so cheap and incompetent that they will most likely only have 30-35 guys on the roster, all rookie free agents and 40 year old guys they coax out of retirement.:blahblah::blahblah:

When every agent, player, and reporter have twitter and release info before the phone call is even done, its a little surprising that the Pats have been linked to no one.
Its not like the Pats can afford to stay pat.

again do you want peppers who has never played in a 3/4 defense and just wants to get paid... Dansby for 30m guaranteed. I would rather focus the next few days on long term deals for Wilfork, Mankins and Brady.

I'm not freaking out yet, but I am beginning to worry a little bit. We haven't even taken care of our own problems (Brady, Bodden) yet. It's unlikely that we'll be big time players in free agency until we do that. I'm not looking for immediate movement/results, but the longer we wait, the more prized free agents that would be able to help this team come off the market. I just hope we make a move or two soon. All of our needs are not going to be able to be filled through the draft.

We're.......DOOMED.....its been ten hours and we haven't signed anybody.
In other news a Sky Is Falling Alert has Just Ben Issued, everyone is cautioned not to go out side.

This makes no sense. Because they didn't act on Day One it means that they will not acquire anyone good?

What do Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Corey Dillon, and Ted Washington have in common?

Do you remember how happy you were that the Pats went out on the first day and signed Adalius Thomas?

Why is everyone so keyed on acting fast? Isn't it who has the best team when teh games are played that is more important?

it's only 9 hours in and the only FA to sign so far is Nate Burleson,

it's a uncaped year. the pats are not going to over pay for anyone. the pats are in full out rebuilding mode. and they will build this team through the draft.

I've only seen maybe 4-5 teams being interested in most of these free agents (Washington, Miami, Chicago, NY Giants, Detroit). Are all the other teams as inept and lazy as Belichick?

Problem is that the draft isn't going to cover the many holes we have. We need to be active in free agency.

i think they will sign a few guys maybe not the peppers and danby type guys but i think they will fill some holes.

Why is everyone so keyed on acting fast?

This is the age of Twitter, Facebook, Blackberry, cell phones and immediate gratification. Anyone under age 30 has ADD. Everything must happen NOW, or all is lost. One day is the new week.

That's why people now boo at Patriots games. It's not, "What have you done for me lately?" It has become, "What have you done for me in the last five minutes?" :bricks:

There's a TON of good players who are FA. We don't need to have 5 new players without stupid sarcastic thread titles like this or general worry warts like you. We can be active in FA without signing anyone for a week.

The Patriots approach this off season cannot be their usual relaxed settle for the veteran that will come to NE and take a pay cut. That isnt going to work this off season especially in an uncapped year. This team has a lot of holes to fill this off season and these holes are at skill positions. The JAGS arent going to cut it.

On offense we have a need of a #2 WR since we cannot count on Welker to be ready. Settling for a Derrick Mason type guy isnt going to work. The Pats should not be afraid to trade one of their draft picks (a 2nd) to a team say like the Cards for a Boldin. Look at what the Jets have done and FA isnt even 12 hours old. They made their best defense in the league even better. When you look at who you want to compete with you immediate look within your division and the Jets secondary definitely is better than our WRs. That definitely needs to be addressed with a big name WR. With the release of Baker and Watson probably signing elsewhere we need a starting TE. If you look at the teams that advance in the playoffs they all utilize their TEs. Even during the Super Bowl years here the Pats used their TEs a decent amount. The Pats cannot settle for an average TE or even drafting a TE, they need to go out and get one of the better TEs. Olsen from the Bears is definitely available and BB and staff hopefully has him on their radar.

As for the defense an obvious need is a pass rush. With the money that Peppers seems to be getting offered I would count the Pats out of that race and I have no problem with that. That kind of money for one player to me isnt worth it, especially when the Pats need to spread out their money this off season. It wouldnt bother me all that much if they address this need through the draft because it is very deep at the DE/OLB position. Bodden is a major key to the Pats. They cannot sit back and see what hes going to do. The CB FA class is very weak and Bodden is probably at the top of the list. If they allow Bodden to visit other teams without giving him an offer, he probably will be playing elsewhere next year which would create another need for the Pats. The Patriots need to be aggresive with Bodden and not let him take offers from other teams without giving an offer himself.

I am basically saying that the Patriots need to be aggressive this off season and not sit back and watch things happen when you have as many needs as the Patriots have and an uncapped year. If they stick to their usual sit back and wait and then sign the veterans past their prime, the Pats will be where they left off last year, just an above average team that cannot compete with the elite.

What is most mind bogglng is why the wait so long to lock up their own FA

e.g. Bodden, Wilfork and Brady

They do give the perception that they are dragging their heeels
