A) Sapp has experience in the 3-4 system. And not any 3-4 system but one passed down the line from BB>Saban>Steele.
B) He fits BB's stringent physical requirements for 3-4 OLB at 6'4 252 lbs.
C) As long as the knees check out, this could be just the type of kid that BB has been waiting for.
D) Seems that he interviewed well too, and that never hurts.

Very light in the pants, weak against the run, not stout at the point of attack, quesitonable football instincts. But fast and athletic.

Very hard to draft a 3-4 OLB coming out of school....which is why BB should have been developing them instead of just punting and putting that bum AD in there.

We need to go to a 4-3 if it's that hard to man a 3-4.

Were any of the true linebackers at the combine 6'4" or taller? Based on the reports I've seen AJ Edds and maybe one other were 6'4 and even then one site had Edds at 6"3.5". If that's true, the only way to get a BB linebacker is to convert a D-lineman.

Edds is 6'3 and 5/8, not 6'3.5" . I know. It's only an 1/8 of an inch..

Most 3-4 OLBs are converted 4-3 DEs...

I've read that Sapp was either 6'3 and 7/8 or 6'4. Both are supposedly "official"

I'd rather have Dunlap if I was going to pick a freakish athlete with motivational questions.

Sapp in the second is something to consider, along with Hughes, Worilds, Lane, Carrington, and Hardy if he falls.

With all the depth at our positions of need (OLB, WR, and RB), I can easily see BB trading down once again.

Worilds sounded intriguing to me, although I think a second may be two high for him. Think Box(?) posted something about him somewhere around here earlier that sang him all sorts of praises. I don't do too much wandering around the net looking for this stuff though so don't listen to me...

I don't like Dunlap at all. He got horrible reviews at the combine during the interview proces. Everyone said hes lazy, immature, and has a bad work ethic. Hes the anti BB guy which means hes all hype and potential but little production. Hes weak at the POA and isnt as athletic as he appears. He also disappeared in big games.

Sapp is good at dropping into coverage and hes definitely athletic enough but he has major red flags vs the run. He is soft at the POA and hes more of a finesse guy. He lacks power in his game and he ha mediocre production. He had 4 sacks in 06, 5 in 07, 2 in 08 and 5 this year. He also only forced two fumbles in his whole career. Hes got the looks and athleticism but not the toughness or production. I wouldnt be pleased if we picked him and if we pick him at 22 I will throw my remote through my TV.

My guys for the OLB position are Brandon Graham or Misi from Utah.

I think Sapp is a great weakside OLB with his athleticism, speed, and explosion. He definitely has the measurables and worked out well at the combine. I think he's got the potential to get stronger and I wouldn't be surprised to see BB take a look at him.

Sapp said that his right knee was at 60% strength during the last season, so he might not have been able to play to his full potential.

I'm suprised nobody has chimed in with 'he's another crable'.......which is the most frequent criticism of sapp I've seen on various pats boards....my only concer would be that based on his dimensions, he may not be as instant an impact as the pats need......it seems as though the lamarr woodley types (6'2" or so and 265 lbs) make a more immediate impact and that the successes of guys like sapp (in terms of physical dimensions) have had more variable success (lawson, jarvis moss versus tamba hali, elvis dumervil, anthony spencer...although gholston is a disaster)...then you have the hybrids who are both big and tall like ware and merriman

Every 6'4-6'6" guy 250 pounds or greater who is athletic and runs a 4.6 or better is the magical missing elephant we need to put us over the top. It's laughable.

We need a rethinking of the defense. If staffing it is so difficult, then switch up to a defense where you can plug in off the shelf players...there are a lot more of them, so they aren't as hard to get.
