A new term for huge nose tackle with a good motor, courtesy of Jamie Dukes at NFLN. He put Vince Wilfork in the "Power Pig" category. Also said he's listed at 355 but probably is closer to 380. :)eek:)

That cannot be healthy.

That cannot be healthy.

Bianca shoulders some of the responsibility, I would assume. But as long as he works out and keeps those arteries open, he's probably OK. It's after he retires that the pounds must come off.

He's never going to be a slim guy, but there's no reason that he should be pushing 4-bills. The guy won't make 40 if he keeps it up.

All NFL lineman are considered to be obese by the medical profession.
So I have read.
Actually, according to the BMI chart, most fullbacks would also be classified as obese. That's the problem, it focuses on height /weight ratio and doesn't take into account muscle mass.

Yeah, BMI is stupid. Virtually all NFL players and many NBA players are overweight or obese per BMI for the same reason. Hell, I think I'm overweight per BMI because I work out, even though I have a 33" waist. (Though I am fatter than I used to be. Getting older sucks.)

That being said, VW is overweight no matter how you judge it. Like Tune wrote, he's probably OK while he's playing but afterwards is when he could have some big problems. I believe the men in his family pass away at early ages, too. I hope thie big guy takes care of himself.

edit: At 5'9" 185 lbs, Wes Welker is "overweight" per the BMI index. That should tell you how useless it is right there.

He's listed at 325 on NFL.com. I'd say he's closer to 350. Vince is 6'2".

Ted Washington was listed at 375 and I think he was 4 bills, but he was 6'5" too. I think Wilfork would just be a sphere at 380,

And this is who we choose to invest so much money in???

Ted was immense, but he seemed to carry that weight more naturally than Vince. Ted's somach is huge but he was built more like an enormous brick. Sphere is a good word for Vince.

Even if he "keeps his arteries" open, 400 lbs. is still far too much weight to put on your heart. He needs to drop some weight.

You don't hear much about the diet Bianca had him on last winter. Maybe the front office does have some legitimate concerns.

BMI is pretty ridiculous. I;m 6'2" 225. I might be able to shed 5-10 pounds, but you need some flub up here in MA, especially when your working outside year round!

In any case, with Wilfork's family history, he really should watch this. The team would be doing him one hell of a favor drafting Cody and asking him to slim down to play DE. would probably add years to his life expectancy. If he is 380, he better start making a serious attempt to slim down. At the same time, BMI does a good job as far as evaluating stress on the heart. The more mass, the harder it has to work to distribute blood. And each heart only has so many pumps, at so much exertion before it will begin to fail. through diabetes into the mix and wilfork has some serious thinking to do. If I were him I'd be more than happy with a 3 year deal, slimming down as time goes on, and retiring immediately thereafter. What is another 10 million if it means you cant watch your children become adults?

Speaking of Jamie Dukes, last season he was asked if he could have any player in the NFL to start his franchise, who would it be? His answer was Micheal Vick.

Was he cracked out?

I completely disregard everything Jamie Dukes says. Hes wonderfully ******ed.

What??? OK, based on that and the fact that he said Wilfork weighs 380, I will now presume that Vince actually weighs 245.

I tend to think of Wilfork as more of a bison type of guy than a "power pig".

Why not water buffalo? Or mega-tortoise?

On another note, Jamie Dukes has really slimmed down himself. That must have taken some hard work and discipline.
