The Saints are a proven product of what BB and the patriots have built. Its obvious that BB is a coach to be trusted and has changed the NFL.

The patriots influence on the the NFL is astounding, and should be emulated. The Saints birth is evidence of this fact. In 2006 payton said he started to build the Saints based on the Patriots model of how to win.

Seeing that you have the original builder of great teams its going to be interesting to see if we can keep up with the patriots in the future, being your first born.

Im sure BB has many more revolutionary concepts in his head, or does the son [ the saints] build from the father a new way for winning for the future. Interesting. I think we all know that the Patriots will be in the playoffs next year, BB is that good , even with ruks playing. More interesting is if the son will repeat and become as constant as the father patriots.

I for one thank you patriots for your accomplishments because it made our dreams come true, you must be very proud of what you have built, and where you are going. If Brady gets one more ring he will be the best of all time with Bradshaw and Montana, the discussion will be over.

We have a long way to go to get your respect, but I find it funny that the first Saints team to win a Super Bowl was born in New England.

On a lighter note I don't think youd catch BB in this outfit:)

I am so happy the Saints won this year, and have have tremendous respect for Payton and the Saints.

Enjoy it! Don't let the bandwagoners spoil the fun :p

pherein,

Congratulations on winning the SB, the Saints became my #2 team over the course of the season and while it was rather painful getting owned by you guys I was in awe of how the team played, there was a stark difference and it was clear that the Saints were an elite team.

Good luck on keeping it going.

If there is anything NO does right, its enjoying the moment:) ya those BWfans are really not what we are about, too bad but I guess you know better than us.

hey snake,

Thow we did beat you we were using BB methods to do that, so in a way you beat yourself. Unlike when Denver beat the Patriots, it was a fluke.
I think we beat you from what we and Payton learned from you. I know most are pulling for a Patriots rematch in the SB next year here, if we can really be that good again and hold true to our model. Brady is the best to beat in the superbowl, no one better, and we all know the son wants to beat the father:)

and then theres the good times and good food, sweet

Was in NOLA for Mardi Gras, while we all reveled in our first SB win.. the impact on the Saints had on their beloved city was beyond any possible expectations...

Need to get right of the "Who Dat" song though, it gets a lot nauseating..

Even a NE fan like myself got close to Sean Payton, Brees and even met Reggie Bush's wife... Mardi Gras a great, grand even was somehow greater and grander...

Two things I want the Pats to replicate the Saints:

1. The Saints have 4 great NFL wide receivers, Brees spreads the ball around because of it.

2. Maybe if we can never get the "shutdown" defense of the superbowl years, we could develop a "gamble, playmaking" defense like the Saints. Our offense is good enough to allow us to. The Saints defense may be mediocre stat wise, but they get so many turnovers because they take risks. (Think Asante 2007).

Much like I would say about the Patriots receivers during the title years, I don't know if I'd call the Saints receivers great on an NFL talent level, but they work well with Brees and the offense they run. You can stockpile great receivers, but if their abilities and attitude don't work within the system in which they play, I expect you would not see great results.

As far as the OP, seeing the Saints win the title was a great way to end the season. If it couldn't be the Pats, there is no team I would rather see holding the Lombardi.

I don't think the saints are teh patriots "son" or whatever. I thnk that's just a desire from pats fans to remain relevent even in a year where they were not very good. "See? The impact of the patriots is STILL FELT, because a Patriots "like" team WON the SB!, Horray!".

Um, yeah, any team that plays well is "patriots like". We are has beens right now...we "have been" champs in the past but it's an ever more distant past. If we don't get it together then we'll be completely forgotten and winning teams will rightfully supplant our memories.

The Saints deserve credit and the patriots didn't inspire them anymore than the steelers or cowboys or 49ers did.

Hey Pherein, thanks for the props. All I usually see is a bunch of whiners crapping on the Pats on any of the NFL message boards.

I enjoyed watching the Saints win the SB this year. The fact that they beat peyton and company is just icing on the cake:singing: You guys have a great team and an awesome Coach.. If BB is the defensive genius then SP is the offensive equlivlent.. A "little" reworking of the defense and you guys will be unstoppable for the next 5 years..

FYI... I was actually IN NOLA during the playoff game with the vikings.. I had never been there before and it was just blind luck we picked that weekend to be there.. I had an awesome time supporting the Saints.. Great city and great people.

God Bless football!

Pherein is a Saints fan you dolt. He has now seen the result and and noted the intent before the victory. It would be a blessing in disguise if fans like yourself completely forgot the relevance of the NEP, or at least lost all desire to frequent this fan site...so that real fans could supplant the memory of the downside of what becoming a dynasty is...an infestation of bandwaggon frontrunners.

So proud of my son... getting his first super bowl trophy!

I might have to up his weekly allowance

I don't care who he is the fan of. And don't call me a dolt.

The Saints victory has nothing more to do with the Pats than the man ON THE MOON. The pats were IRRELEVENT TO THE SAINTS' VICTORY.

Yeah, he said he'd "model" them on the pats b/c that was the flavor of the day. Big deal.

The rest of my post I stand by, we are has-beens, unfortunately.

Trying to tie us into every winning team through them "emulating us" is pure fantasy. Should we pats get half of the SB victory in our column cause we were just so relevent for their victory? Of COURSE NOT.

We need to create some new memories before we are forgotten completely and deservedly so.

And I'll put my fan history against yours every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Hey SAS,

I dont see it that way. The father son thing was more of an analogy, its sounds better than "we are copy cats". Its been stated by the NO staff many times that the goal was to copy the patriots model. So the Saints are not "patriots like" they are a direct copy of ideas that later mutated into what payton is trying to accomplish. I call it the "you cant cover everyone offense".
I agree we deserve credit, and thanks, it was a rough year. But we are defiantly a product of the patriots ball club, and by starting that thinking in 2006 payton built the team we got today. The point is Payton could have picked any team to copy and the outcome would have been different, but he didn't he copied BB and it worked.

I agree we have 6 great WR's :) colston, roby, harper, moore, meachem, and henderson. I would say they are not Hall of Fame WR's or the best in the NFL, but they all have excellent ball skills and are above average, so great, but not up to Mose standards.

Hey flycessna,

Hope the home front is good. We are all pretty impressed with the boys right now, but you have to give props were they are due, and N.E. made a huge impact on payton and our ball club. I dont understand the why anyone would put down the patriots, they made the playoffs with injuries and ruks, BB has things under control. This year you are going to be a real problem for other teams.

Its pretty cool to think that Williams will be drafting for us this year, maybe we might end up just as good as the redskins defense, that would be something, williams has a real eye for defensive talent like, arrington and taylor.

Thanks back for the props about payton, he just seems to have that thing, but he wont be in BB's arena until 2 more rings, BB's a legend and what he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing. Glade you came down and had a good time, southern hospitality is not dead in NO.

heck ya God Bless football!

You just wish you had the legendary,Sam Aiken, possibly the greatest wide receiver of all tie.

Most teams would kill to be in the playoffs, and you were there with ruks, I dont see that as being a has-been, I dont understand your cynicism of the patriots in that regard. Plus injuries played a large part of the patriots performance that day. And the patriot model has been the flavor on the month for 9 years now.

I dont know man looks like he is doing the same yards as our receivers :), brees has ADD and cant concentrate on one receiver, Its a miracle for any one WR in NO to break a 1000 yards. I kind of feel sorry for the boys individual stats, they will never make top 5.
