I found this quote interesting, perhaps Freudian:

This is the Pioli comment that I found most interesting because it is true.

It isnt just the media either. It iratates me how spoiled we have become that we cant even enjoy the sucess we have unless it is the pinaccle of success. I am very proud of how this team played without Tom and very Proud that made it back to the playoffs in his first year back sure I am disappointed how it ended but I also see a bright future where many see doom and gloom.

Well, BB has acknowledged that specifically in his day after presser this year. It's easy to say it, but relationships develop as they will. Just because Pioli says it too doesn't mean he'll do it, he's new.

Although I've taken the other side, there's no guarantee BB, Weis and Rac would feel like listening to each other's **** after all these years, so maybe it's different for Pioli.

Pioli was on this a.m. on Sirius Radio talking to Peter King.. I was amazed how frank and articulate he was during the 15 min conversation.. They talked about how he was 27 and worked by Bill and was there during the last days of the Brown original franchise..

Some things he touched upon

1. The Krafts always let the football people do their thing and never stepped on their toes..

2. When going to K.C. he made it a point to the owners that he wanted the same flexibility that the Krafts gave him.. And that would be no limit on the resources he could spend (up 2 the salary cap)

3. Can't recall a draft where two DT's where this good.. He said both can play in any defense.. Said this was as strong as the 2001 draft with Seymour and Stroud

4. Said pound for pound Mike Mayock is the best in the business and no one comes close.. He made it very clear that Mayock knows what he is doing and understands what to look at when watching tape..

5. Said the K.C. has a lot of holes to fill and will be active in F.A. and will not have self imposed salary cap

Found this very interesting. I don't think he saying that they will be the second-coming to the NYY, but to say "we have many holes to fill" and that they do not have a "self-imposed" cap tells me that they will spend money.

OR

A new CBA will be agreed-to before March 5th and the "self-imposed" became "league-imposed".

Last year they struggled to get to the floor. The problem in KC isn't cap it's cash. They renovated Arrowhead last season and that will help some but not enough to be competitive dollar for dollar. They pocketed some cash last year (or stockpiled it in effect in the only way you can absent a rollover option which was out due to the uncapped year). That is why they hired Pioli, in hopes he could install the system there and they could compete by being smarter than the other guy rather than simply richer...or impatient. They need to spend this year because they got lots of holes. They still won't overpay on Pioli's watch because he's a long view guy.

I think Scott also held back last offseason because he knew what he wanted coaching wise and he wasn't sure he had the right guy in Haley (he really wanted Ferenz) to accomplish enough to make wholesale signings last season beyond the QB he lucked into... He was clearly waiting on RAC (they talked last season and had a gentleman's agreement on this season) and hoping for Charlie (whom he probably had a gentleman's what if agreement with too). I guarantee you they will have relative autonomy in KC and Haley will be the big picture guy.

Just to add to this.. John Clayton was on the NFL channel on sirius with Pat Kirwan and said that KC has dedicted 44-46 million on contracts.. The average right now is 88-92 mllion.. They have a LoT to throw around..

It's a real good point. The way 2006 & 2007 ended were heartbreaking, but the last two seasons, to go 21-11 with Brady's understudy and Brady coming off of a major knee surgery - it's not too shabby.

Granted, I do think the 11-5 in 2008 is skewed given the competition was remarkably weak, and a healthy Brady, Moss, Welker, etc. picks up right where it left off in 2007 and probably makes a shot at running the table with that schedule...but I'll pretend like I didn't have this thought and try to continue on that optimistic note you brought forth.

He was great until he started reading his own press clippings and then getting entrenched and defensive about his position. He created some pretty uncomfortable vibes on the set last season. And he's still in love with Cutler...and thought absent him Sanchez was worth Denver trading up for since he understands the pro offense and can read defenses...:ugh:

That said, QB is a crapshoot read. Which is why guru's should just stop pimping the lot of 'em and encourage teams to worry about the LOS first and focus on developing a QB instead of fawning over sexy, overhyped prospects who at best are almost all long term projects.

I never saw that in the Glob either. That particular quote is more a subject for another thread, anyway, and is not particularly germaine to the the topic at hand, namely: that the people with whom Bill is surrounding himself have little knowledge, and less incentive, to say anything more than "Great idea, Boss!"
