I think the Pats have a boatload of offseason signings and 1 of these guys could certainly not be signed...

If you had a choice of them signing only ONE of these two players, which would it be?

I know we all want both of them back but there is a good chance only one of them might be back.

Who's it going to be? ...Bodden or Banta Cain?

Tough call, I think that pats need pass rushers more then DB's, but I think Bodden is better at CB then TBC is at DE. Since I'm sick of seeing an endless rotation of washed up or young DB's that just can't play, I'll take Bodden.

Bodden and it's not close.

assuming a avg deal number .
Bodden - 6-7 million a yr deal
TBC - 1.5 million a yr deal

bodden for sure.

Bodden and it's not close.

Are you sure its not close?...Aside from Banta Cain we had no pass rush..(Burgess second with 5)

Unless you are assuming we sign Peppers,Dansby or another big name or expect a rookie to make an impact.

With that being said...I too went with Bodden as I think we could pick up a vet pass rusher....not Peppers or a big name because we are not paying double digit millions to any new player, but a decent player should be signed, maybe Kampman if he is not extremely high - defensive backs who fit in a new system are tougher to find IMO.

Bodden is a higher-grade talent IMO. He'd be my choice.

No nock on TBC. He was a great suprise this year. I'm glad he was on the team.

5 of tbc's sacks came against the bills.
Bodden had 3 picks of sanchez but bodden was solid all year.

May seem like a cop out, but I can't say with the current information. It would all depend on:

- What my scouting department is telling me about DBs and OLBs in this year's draft.

- What my odds are of replacing either player through FA (aka, have I heard rumblings of cuts, players interested in NE, etc).

- What are both players legitimately willing to accept for an offer.

I simply don't have all that information to make a decision. As it is, I think TBC is the more important piece (as I personally believe in building from the LOS out) but Bodden is younger and probably better at what he does than TBC is at what he does.

It's too close to call.

I agree. I'd say their contributions to the team were roughly equal, with perhaps a slight edge going to Bodden. Still, that slight edge would be made up for the fact that Banta-Cain is probably a cheaper contract. I actually think Banta-Cain has some upside even though he's 30. The guy has clearly become a better player since he was last with us.

Proportionately I think that Bodden is superior to TBC.

Re: Bodden or Banta-Cain?....If the Pats only sign one,who do you want?

Bodden, we need a taller CB, and he fits that role, plus he is a veteran presence in the secondary

Not really close.

Bodden.

Re: Bodden or Banta-Cain?....If the Pats only sign one,who do you want?

Banta-Cain is my choice.

Not close at all. TBC by a mile.

TBC is cheap. Bodden is expensive.

Both are good but not great at all. bodden is seriously overrated here.

Bye bye to him.

Yes, I know CB is expensive but we have talent there (including the underrated Wilhite) and not having bodden frees up a lot of money.

Based on the projected salaries, I would probably say TBC. Bodden had a solid season for us, but I don't see him being worth anywhere between 6-8 million per year at the age of 29 in 2010.

TBC was a great pickup by BB and I would hope he is back. Burgess is a FA, Crable is an unknown, Adalius isn't expected back, and Woods is not starting material. It's very difficult to bring in a rookie or two and thrust them in to a starting role at OLB. Even if we went after a Peppers/Merriman type of FA (which I doubt), I would still want TBC back with Crable and hopefully a draft pick or two.

I personally feel Bodden was a little overrated this year. He had a solid season, but he wasn't great. I think people have overrated him a bit due to the Delthea O'Neal experiment in 08 and the Wilhite bashing. Wilhite is underrated IMO and I think he will take a big step forward next year. Butler, Wilhite, Springs, Wheatley, and a FA/Late Draftee/Trade is okay by me. That's why I like the speculation of a Maroney for Cromartie deal. He would fill Bodden's spot at a cheap price.

Disagree. Bodden had a better season this year than Asante Samuel. 6-7 million, I feel, would be reasonable for a player of Bodden's caliber. After all, we all saw what Foxworth and Greer got, and Bodden is better than the former and on par with the latter.

Finally, an improved pass rush should only bolster the secondary. I, too, like Wilhite and think Butler, Bodden, and Wilhite has a lot of potential.

Bodden x10

Well, this poll isn't exactly close.

Can anyone imagine a scenario where the Pats have to make this choice?

TBC was a decent pass rusher and a liability against the run.

Bodden is a better CB than TBC is a pass rusher and if TBC is your best or
2nd best pass rusher, your team is screwed.
