Re: Pats to Franchise Wilfork today

Just heard on 98.5

Ok....Now we wait to learn if he signs the tender. My assumption is that it is of the exclusive tage variety.

Let the trading begin. Maybe it's already done.

Trades can't be made until March 5, and Wilfork has to sign the tender to be traded...

There is smoke billowing in this area of Pennsylvania,I wondered where it came from........

After looking closely, it looks to be coming up north and out from the ears of Mr. Wilfork up in Massachusettes ....He is not a happy camper..

oh,the Poor 7 Million dollar boy,I feel so sad for him :(

tom curran is confirming it.

Re: Pats have franchised Wilfork

Interesting that it's coming three days before the deadline... why not wait until the last minute? What's the advantage of doing it now?

Doesn't mean something's not already worked out, right? Probably there many teams that are more than willing to give him a lot more than 7M for one year, in which case the ink on the tender is still wet.

Because they made an offer, it was rejected. They went back to him, and he said, "No way."

A lot more than $7 million means nothing. They need to give him a lot more than $10 million.

Unless you're saying that someone is willing to give up top picks AND many millions to sign Vince. Fat chance.

To calm him down?.....won't work

I think Vince is so mad right now that he is not able to eat

...........on the other hand,no chance of that happening

4 Possible Reasons:

1. They recived a kick-***** offer for Vince and want to send him out of here before FA starts- see Cassell last year.

2. Both sides think adequete progress has been made in the negotiations and the Pats want to negotiate with him exclusively.

3. The Pats are peeved that VW is not coming back to the negotiating table and utilizing the tag as a tactic to bring VW back to the table.

4. Vince came back with some numbers and the Pats said no. See 1, 2 and 3 as possible outcomes.

All are plausible. Did I forget any?

My guess is that there too far apart on the contract agreement and there's not much hope for an agreement. Doesn't look good for vinces future with the pats, which sucks IMO.

Re: Curran: Pats have franchised Wilfork

what does Wilfork want as far as coin is concerned? He is not a 3 down lineman. here's hoping they come to some agreement but if not trade him.

Depends what you mean by "top picks" by considering we got 2.2 for Cassel then I would say it's fully reasonable.

Good. Hopefully this means Vince will be a Patriot this season.

Ok just cause the coaching staff decides to pull him on passing situations does not mean Vince is not a 3 down player. He isn't electing to come out it's the staffs decision not his.

For #1, someone said you can't trade until after March 5th anyway, so even if they'd worked something out they wouldn't be able to do it until after the Franchise deadline either way.

For #2, again, there is no penalty for tagging early, but no advantage either. Other teams still wouldn't be able to negotiate with him until well after the 25th anyway.

#3 makes sense to me. A show of force almost, saying, "Fine, you don't want to talk, here's what happens."

A first and a third.

Isn't that the going rate for the tag we gave him?

No. The franchise tag compensation rate is two 1st rounders.
