Which of these names won't be on the Pats Draftboard? I'm pretty sure all these guys fit the physical qualities the Pats are looking for.

NT:

- Terrence Cody

DT:

- Ndamukong Suh
- Jared Odrick
- Arthur Jones
- Camaron Thomas
- Vince Oghobaase
- Lamarr Houston Jr.

DE:

- Carlos Dunlap
- Corey Wootton
- Alex Carrington
- Greg Hardy
- Clifton Geathers
- Tyson Alualu

OLB:

- Jason Worilds
- Jerry Hughes
- Sergio Kindle
- Koa Misi
- Ricky Sapp
- Cameron Sheffield

ILB:

- Rolando McClain
- Brandon Spikes
- Micah Johnson

S:

- TJ Ward
- Larry Asante
- Nick Polk
- Myron Rolle
- Earl Thomas
- Randy Phillips

CB:

- Joe Haden
- Kyle Wilson
- Devin McCourty
- Walter McFadden
- Kareem Jackson

TE:

- Anthony McCoy
- Tony Moeaki
- Dennis Pitta
- Nate Byham

Off the top of my head:

Alualu- Shorter than the Patriots would like in a DE
Hughes- Shorter than the Patriots would like in an OLB
Sapp- Injuries and presence against the run
Hardy- Injuries, character and motor concerns
Pitta- Mostly a receiving TE and not a physical freak, would be similar to David Thomas... do the Pats want to go that route again?

For the record, I like some of these guys, and I am not saying they won't be on the Pats draft board, just that it wouldn't shock me if they were not on the draft board.

Like Pryor, Alualu is one heck of an inside penetrator, who can also play some 5-tech. He's not ideal in the NE 3-4, but the NE 4-3 would showcase him more - he's an excellent compromise DL.

Hughes issue is being raw, there's a lot to unlearn and there's a lot to learn - he's going to grade higher for some 4-3 teams.

Sapp - see the LB thread for a new analysis of him that grades him higher in my eyes for NE.

Hardy is being projected late second...I guess it's a matter of whether BB feels the kid is mentally tough enough to take his punishment and play with a chip on his shoulder (my guess is, no).

Pitta is a receiver, a Dallas Clark receiver with some better blocking skills - BB might.

- Carlos Dunlap
- Corey Wootton
- Alex Carrington
- Greg Hardy
- Clifton Geathers
- Tyson Alualu

OLB: As above

- Jason Worilds
- Jerry Hughes

- Rolando McClain
- Brandon Spikes
- Micah Johnson

S:

- TJ Ward
- Larry Asante
- Nick Polk

My initial thoughts on your list :)

I hope guys like Hardy and Sapp are on the Pats board. I'd love to see them added in the 2nd round. Not a big fan of Hughes.

BB does nor care f a prospective DB has lose or tight hips, with BB it is all about change of direction. That is why the 3 cone drill, is a huge deal for BB.

I agree, I think Sapp will grade out higher on BB's board than most others. Especially since BB can see film of Sapp in coverage.

But I keep coming back to BB drafting rule #1, Is Sapp a three down player? After further review, I can't see it.

In my mind, the best case situation is for McClain to be available when the 49ers are on the clock. Then we can trade Wilfork and #22 to San Fran for San Fran's two 2010 first rounders and then we take McClain and Mt. Cody with the 49ers to first round picks.

Um the 49ers already have a premiere nt who has been in their system for a couple of years.

Franklin? Isn't he a free agent this year? Also wouldn't Wilfork be a huge upgrade over whoever they have and wouldn't Wilfork's work up front make things easier for the 49ers talented LBers? (Especially if they were to sign Dansby?)

Word is he's going to franhised if they can't work out a long term deal.

He's one of those under the radar guys who plays extremely well. Logically it would not be beneficial for the 49ers to make that trade. Think of it as in the law of diminishing returns.

Brit - Why do you think that Lamarr Houston is only a 4-3 DT?

Too short, short arms, not enough power or strength, not enough sand in his pants. Does have decent technique and a good first step. Looks much more a Tampa, Colts, Bears type.

Koa Misi could be a good fit for us. Perhaps with our 52 pick.

So Kiper has us taking Brandon Graham out of Michigan. We took a OLB from Michigan two drafts ago who can't even get on the field. I sure hope we don't make this mistake twice. If Sergio Kendal is available he's the pick at 22, I would mind see Sapp taken there either. My hope is that Hughes is available with that first second round pick, he's explosive off the line of scrimmage.

I dont think Kindle plays out too well for us. He can't get it done against college O-lineman, let alone the Pro's. Honestly, i don't know who would be a good choice at 22 for us. If I hear we should trade up for Spiller one more time I will start shooting. there is no way we should be burning a pick on RB in the first two rounds. There are way too many holes in this roster that need addressing. Personally, I'd take a mid-late round flier on a guy for some youth and roll with the current RB's (assuming Faulk is resigned), and cut ties with BenJarvus (theres a reason he doesn't dress unless the Mash unit is in full effect). Iaputi at G? Although Johnson (AL, 2nd round proj I beleive) also seems to be a good fit. Graham would probably be my guess, but taking a OLB in the first does not seem to be the BB way.

So because Shawn Crable hasn't yet shown himself worthy of the pick, EVERY SINGLE MICHIGAN PLAYER is now a bust in waiting?

Amazing.

Have you even seen one second of Graham?

And it's Sergio Kindle, oh great Draftnik.

There is a lot to like about that trade.

Sure there is a risk involved in trading a star like Wilfork, but better to trade a player at the top of his game if it will help boost the talent level of the whole team. It isn't like the Pats can't fill the void with Brace, Pryor or Cody.

My question of whether Spikes could learn to be a three down ILB in the NFL still stands. If he can, I can't see why the Pats don't stay put and take Spikes and either re-sign/tag Wilfork and retain their remaining picks to address other needs.

I think that's a pipe dream. Nobody is going to give two 1st round picks for Wilfork AND a 90M contract. Well, maybe Snyder would but he already paid out 100M for Haynesworth so you can mark off one lunatic meddling owner off the trading list.
