Round 1.22 Jared Odrick DE. 6'5 308. Richard Seymour's shoes are big and they need filling. That's a tall order, but Odrick has the length and size that BB likes at DE. He can also get up the field and create pressure on passing downs.

Round 2.12 Jerry Hughes OLB. 6'2 255 lbs. Great speed off the edge, relentless leg drive, he's an explosive passrusher. Main question - Is he tall enough for BB?

Round 2.15 Everson Griffen LB. 6'3 280 lbs. A freakish athlete for his size. Extremely athletic but inconsistent. Might be capable of playing the Patriots' versatile Elephant position on defense.

Round 2.21 Arrelious Benn WR. 6'2 220 lbs. A big, strong, and talented WR that can play a possession role. Is fearless going over the middle and adept at picking holes in zone defenses. Benn could move the chains for some NFL offense. Big question - can he pick up the Pats complex offensive scheme? Can he increase the variety and quality of his routes?

So basically I focused mostly on the defense in the first two rounds of the draft. I think Benn drops because his route running isn't polished, and I don't think he'll run faster than a 4.5 at the Combine. If he is smart enough to pick up the Pats offense he could turn into a real asset though. I am assuming that Wilfork gets resigned, so we'll just focus on filling in the hole beside him and behind him. Griffen is one of those guys that is a bit of an enigma. He has the elite athleticism I think it takes to play elephant back for us.

I like Hughes pure speed and leg drive as a passrusher, I don't know if BB takes him off the board because of height concerns though. In any case the passrush is completely retooled with this draft. Whether Burgess or TBC will come back is unknown at this point and we need better options anyways.

Am I reaching a little for Odrick? I could easily see a slight trade down to pick up a 3rd round pick and then nab Odrick in the 25-27 range.

Belay all after Odrick. Carry on. :cool:

Nice effort. :rocker:

I like Benn a lot; I think he's exactly what we need at the #2 WR, something I hoped Chad Jackson would do. He's the WR I want the most at this point.

I'm not the biggest fan of Hughes from what I've seen, but I haven't seen enough of him to have a good feel for him.

Interesting take on Griffin, VJC. I don't think Griffin can play OLB in our 3-4 defense. He seems like a good fit a 4-3 DE. He looked like he actually got fatter this year when I saw him play. I could see a team like the Eagles taking him. Reid likes to build up his OL and DL, and he'd be a nice piece to add opposite Trent Cole.

Nice effort, and excellent value, especially with Benn - it would take me a nano-second to get his name handed in on Draft day if he's still there at 58 (which I doubt, I think he'll be a first round pick).

However.....the more I look at Hughes the more I see an under-sized 4-3 End only. He really is very very very average against the run, and that's being generous. Half the time he's really poor.

As for Griffen - I'd have a pop it him in the third round (if we had a pick), but not before. I don't see real speed or power when I look at him, he has a nice spin move, but little else to go with it, and I have real doubts over his desire and especially his motor. His work ethic is a big problem for me. Very big.

I like it a lot and on paper its great imo.
Throw a RB in the later rounds and a OG and it would be perfect.

I still think we need another WR or two either via a FA or later rounds.
We really really think at WR and god help us if Moss misses a few games.

Odrick = 1 gap system
Hughes = Poor edge setting
Benn= Production ?, might be a project reciever in our system. Could be too high for a project. If they spend a pick that high on a reciever. They probably need some immediate impact.
Griffen= The ultimate question mark player. Could be great or JAG.

Unlike past years. I think NE has many different directions they could go. System wise they could make changes on both sides of the ball. Changes that would include different personnel. Are they going to use a FB and a TE. What is the front on D going to look like. This should be an interesting draft. I think whoever get's picked first will tell the tale.
Your picks = upgrade over last years hybrid 34 and more passing from run formations.......

You want to go into the season with only 1 TE?

Odrick = 1 gap system
Hughes = Poor edge setting Could you please tell us which of the D-line prospects have played in a Two Gap system beyond, maybe, Mt. Cody? Based on what I saw in the Senior Bowl, Odrick looks like he could handle the two gap assignments in the long run. I believe he'll be brought along much in the way that Warren was.
Benn= Production ?, might be a project reciever in our system. Could be too high for a project. If they spend a pick that high on a reciever. They probably need some immediate impact. He could have immediate impact. The questions on Benn are whether or not he can score TDs. Well, I remember that Aqua was slamming Welker for the same thing. Look how that turned out. Not saying that Benn will do the same, but the Pats really only need him to account for 4 or 5 a year...

I'll be honest. I think we'll see the 4-3 as the base (much like 2001), with next year being a return to the 3-4 (ala 2002). The difference will be that we'll have a NT (or two), unlike in 2002.

On the offense, I think we'll see them go with the 3wr, TE, RB as the base..

I think they will develop their future 34 OLB in the 43 next year, not dvelop a first round 34 end. Players like Oghobaase and Arthur Jones will probably be more likely later to develop as ends. There was better depth on the DL and LB combined when they developed Warren. This year they are one 34 end short and a rush LB short. They are going to need to get production right away from one of those two positions in the draft. If they are going to be in the 43 next year it will be to develop the next Willie Mac not Ty Warren, IMO.

As far as reciever goes. I'm gun shy not running the ball and relying on rookie WR making sight adjustments and or playing the z in a 2x1 set. Tate I would be fine with, because he knows the system and has production. Chad Jackson has damaged my psyche.......

...The questions on Benn are whether or not he can score TDs...

Actually the questions on Benn are why wasn't he able to score in college. Not whether he can or will in the pros. Dominant receivers in the past have been able to overcome offensive scheme and very poor QB play in college. Why wasn't Benn able to? That is the main question. Can Benn beat double teams? There's another question. Can he track the ball in the air? He compares to Chad Jackson a lot. He is slower than Chad.

I'm afraid that neither Griffen nor Benn might be avail. at 47; at least one mock I have read (I forget which) has Griffen taken before our pick at 22. A couple of dudes seem to drop from the 1st round every year, so maybe one of the WRs does it this year.

Yes he's shorter than preferred...and come to think of it -- TBC and Burgess are also. If lack of height is going to be a serious determining factor, than talent like Worilds, Graham, and Norwood should also be removed from consideration, diverting our attention toward the taller Kindle, Sapp, or Selvie. IMHO, BB will select the best overall package of skills who can play the position -- even if he prefers a taller player.

Reach on perhaps BB's #1 target at #22?

His quarterback was terrible. Not just very poor. Terrible.

I'd love to spend a late 2nd on him and coach him up, but I think his talent gets him drafted well before that.

After watching Griffen at the combine, I'm starting to like him more than I previously did in the 3-4 defense. He seems like he could be a good fit at SOLB. Good call VJC.

These guys did look good at the combine. Hughes and Griffen both had two of the top times for DL tested. Griffen benched as many reps as Suh did! I think Griffen's agility is freakish looking for a guy his size. Arrelious Benn tied for tops in all wideouts with 20 reps. His vert was decent at 37. I don't see a 40 time listed though... Did he skip the 40?

I think that Ben Tate is moving onto my radar for the draft. I wish we had a 3rd round pick because he looks to be a guy well worth taking a look at. I'm also taking a long hard look at Trent Williams who pulled off a freaky combine for OL, second in wow factor only to Bruce Campbell. I am also moving Jahvid Best up my draft boards based on the fact that he had BOTH the fastest 40 and the fastest 3 cone times of any RB at the combine - 4.35 and 6.75 respectively. Ben Tate was no slouch either at 4.43 and 6.91 while weighing in at a stocky 220 lbs. And to me stocky is a good for a RB, that's a good build to take the pounding of the NFL.

After our 2006 Draft had mixed reviews, I found this old moch. Look at who they had us Drafting . Maybe that is why BP took out Brady!

Definitely with you on Griffen, Benn, Best, Tate. I've never seen Hughes play so I can't really comment but he supposedly had a very good combine. One of the OL I like is Charles Brown who really impressed me in the mirror drills. I love Bulaga too but he seems to be out of reach.

Benn's 40 time was a 4.48, which is very good. He's my favorite WR in this draft. Love his combo of physicality and speed. Would be the perfect #2 across from Moss.

If you substitute Misi for Griffen, I like this draft a lot! I don't know if Benn will be there at 53, but I would take the best available WR/RB/TE at that spot.
