The Browns have decided not to wait for Jamal Lewis to announce retirement and released him today - there is word going around that Jamal is not going to retire after all as he owes some big debts outside of football

Jamal at 30 years of age reminds me of Corey Dillon when he came here at 30- A bruising back to have has some big time years in the past but as he started in his late 20s he then got beat out by the new star on the team (Rudi Johnson in Cincy and Jerome Harrison in Cleveland)

I know our RB area is stocked right now (there will be changes), but we don't seem to have that type of back who can move the chains consistently,at 5 11" and 240 pounds if Jamal has anything left he could be a good pickup - I don't see both Morris and Taylor on the team this year (Morris could be cut,Taylor could get released or retire and Maroney is a ticking time bomb)

Is Jamal worth a one year deal of about 1.5 Million or is he washed up? - I expect a rookie RB to be drafted but I also expect least one, maybe two of the RBs on this team to be gone well before TC

Jamal if anything is one of the most durable running backs in league history, only missing about 5 games in his 10 year career

I would think his drug dealing days from 4 years ago have come and gone

A Dumb thought for interest or intriguing?

It only took about 5 or 6 hours for someone to bring him up..

I take it you don't like the guy DB?

Never said either way..

Just that in another thread someone asked what the over/under would be on someone bringing up whether the Pats should look at Lewis.

Get used to it my friend...its the offseason and alot of interesting guys are going to be available...as long as it does not take up and cluster half of the main forum,I see no real problem with it.

If there is anything to complain about its the amount of thread issues pertaining to Deion Branch and Julius Peppers which has to be around 10 threads right now with about 1/2 between the two players.

Great, add him to the mix. The Patriots running back situation is like that quote: "I've never ****** a ten, but one night I ****** five twos."

He announced he was going to retire at the end of the 2009 season due to concussion problems, can't see him trying to make a comeback. Even if he did try, a 30+ year old back with a ton of mileage who has concussion issues isn't appealing

As I mentioned above,Lewis is in serious poor financial situations of some dumb check he allegedly wrote years ago...I think its reported that he owes creditors 25 Million dollars ... While he won't make even 10% of that for his next team..I really think he has no choice but to play again and earn any dollar he can - as far as concussions go,it will be a scary thing for him to try and avoid I am sure.

Difference between Lewis and dillon is that Lewis already went to his other team and showed he doesn hav much abymore. He is an old 30, like really old 30. This team needs more speed at rb, Morris is fine as a between the tackles guy.

Think I said that over in the draft forum... What, 1 or 2 would be the winner right.

Two thumbs up for the George carlin quote. that man was hilarious! Not sure if he beats out Prior for me though.

Eh-back tot he topic... How should I put this? Are you @#$%^$#@$%^^%$$# kidding me? That old coke-pushing, soap dropping, !@#@$^^^#@$!-tard can stay the hell out of NE. That work? If anyone really thinks this guy has anything more to offer than Taylor/Morris, you need to stop drinking pronto. He may be durable, but the man has lost a few more than simply "a step." He was slow when he got out of prison, let alone at this point in his career. Next stupid, washed up old man FA question?

I mean really, if it was someone on say the 10th hole of their career instead of on the cart path to the bar after bogeying 18, it would be a decent discussion point...

Another old running back is just what this team needs. He can play weeks 8 through 10 and then go on IR in 11.

PatsfaninPA - The least you could do is provide your source regarding the Lewis financial woes. OH wait.. It's PFT so it's a good chance that the guy doesn't know wtf he's talking about. It is FLORIO after all. And he didn't bother to follow up on his homework. The case is listed as INACTIVE even though the Cuyahoga County Judge did acknowledge the Foreign Judgement. Nothing has happened on the case since May of 2009 when the Plaintiff's Lawyer finally paid the $27 in court fees that had been assessed.

So, who knows where it stands. What I do find interesting is that I can't seem to find anything online about the case in Georgia against Lewis. Of course, it doesn't help that the State Of Georgia County Court system uses some screwed up text thing from Oracle to view it's files.

But, anyways, I've done a google search and can't find anything on the Georgia case.

Yeah,PFT broke the news but I believe I read it on USA Today or NBC Sports...of course it was passed on from PFT

If Florio is passing this type of news and its not true it could be slanderous type ....things should transpire to know the real story

Do not want. If we are talking 30 year old RB's, I'd rather have Larry Johnson than Jamal Lewis. Either way I'd prefer younger and fresher legs at RB.

I think we need to have a limit on these types of threads. For instance, maybe only 5 threads about over 30 broken down players, per offseason. :bricks:

seriously, Lewis? no way. Someone compared him to Dillon???? big difference

Well our running backs do need some veteran leadership...:D

Not interested in Lewis.

No, thank you.

I think the Patriots have learned the hard way that an old guy here or there might help the team, but old guys everywhere won't cut it. Go young.

Absolutely not. Well, maybe if he paid us, I'd entertain the idea.
