Reiss mentioned it in a blog and in his maibag. Adalius Thomas for Deon Branch. I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd even think about throwing in a late draft pick if needed, 6th or 7th.

No. Trade Thomas if you can for a conditional pick just to unload the salary and attitude. Sign Meion to an incentivized prove it deal only if he's released. Use the saved $$$ to sign or extend someone you trust will have an impact.

That's just posturing. They won't let him risk injury on their nickle this offseason because they don't want to be stuck with him at almost $6M.

with no cap in place they could wait as long as they want until its time to pay him, which is the start of the season

With BB coordinating the defense, I'm not so sure Thomas can't be "rehabbed" into being a productive player for this team. If BB can somehow get him to drink the Kool-Aid, that could prove HUGE for both the defense and the locker room.

Branch's fragility makes me nervous. I wouldn't give up much for him.

I realize the Jets have restrictions in FA, but they also have Gholston to trade for Thomas.

Gholston for Thomas wouldn't work. Final Eight teams can't trade for a player that they can't sign as a UFA.

Besides, you can always put a clause in the trade agreement to that effect (for example, when Lord Favrequad was traded to the JEST, the agreement stipulated that if the JEST allowed Favre to end up on a team in the NFC North in 2008, they would have to give Green Bay three first-round draft picks as compensation).

I voted yes for two reasons.

- Thomas is gone anyway, might as well get something in return. If there is no cap and it doesn't affect Kraft paying for any other moves that Belichick might make, who cares what Branch is making this year in an uncapped year.

- Trading Thomas will keep him out of the Jets' hands with the possibility that he can ressurrect his career in Ryan's undisciplined defense.

Nothing tells me Thomas is gone anyway. Everyone thought he was going to be benched for the rest of the year too. They will not trade him for nothing just to trade him.

It is an undisciplined defense. Doesn't mean it is a bad defense. Never indicated any other way. I am just saying that Thomas might flourish in an undisciplined defense because many players cannot flourish in a disciplined defense and like to freelance too much. Many players have have had HOF careers freelancing and playing without discipline.

First they traded Vrabel for nothing. If they can trade him for nothing, they certainly could trade Thomas for nothing.

Second, not benching him and getting rid of him after the season are two completely different things. Thomas has seemed to wear out his welcome here and looks all about assured of being gone. The Pats couldn't bench Thomas for the whole season without him filing a greivance with the league. The odds are very great that he will not be in a Patriots uniform next year.

I would not go as far as saying he has a ton of talent. The guy seems to have slowed quite a bit this year. He will be 33 when the season starts this year. He is on the tail end of his career and his skills are declining. He might have a resurgence in another system, but I don't know how much talent he has left.

Paying $6M to a player who isn't worth it effects Kraft paying for any other moves that Belichick might make whether there is a cap or not...simply because it's bad business and this team will run on a budget irrespective of the cap situation, just like the Steelers will.

why would we make this trade. no body wants either of these guys for their price tags with so little production for both the last couple years. they will both be released and we can bring branch in for a workout, and sign him for less. i know others will be competing for his services but he has been comfortable here before and knows belichick and brady well. if he decides to sign elsewhere so be it. there are other options out there for the money branch has on his contract now and we have the picks to aquire the better younger established nfl talent. this shouldnt even be a trade topic

Vrabel is at the end of his career, Thomas is still a physical freak. The 2 situations cannot be compared at all.

From the surface of what we see/know, it seems the odds are high he won't be here. But I can all but guarantee he won't be traded for nothing. If there's nothing of value to get in trade he will remain here.

He definitely still has a lot of talent. Sure he underperformed this year along with a myriad of attitude issues, but he still has the physical skills to be a player in this league. We'll get a lot more than Branch for him.
