Ian's Daily Blog - The Boston Herald reported on Tuesday that the Patriots are expected to give linebacker Pierre*Woods a second-round tender, just as they did last season. According to the report the deal would pay him $1.759 million in 2010, which is a raise from the $1.545 million he received in 2009. Odds are pretty good that should be enough [...]

As long as he doesn't see any snaps in the regular defense and is strictly limited to special teams, then fine. Otherwise, send him packing........He doesn't belong in the league.

When will the Pats be tendering Gost and Mankins?

Could you image BB glee if another team actually signed him?

Undrafted LB plays four years as a solid special teamer with spot defensive duties, then gets recycled for a 2nd round pick? Pretty good ROI if you ask me, even without the pick.

Never happen though. No one is giving a 2nd for Woods.

Al Davis....

I don't want him to be a starter either, but I don't have a problem with him as a back-up. His been in the system for a while now and is familiar with it.

Is Alexander still around?...its time for him to say bye-bye

Why, in the name of my new Lord & Master Satan (and I don't mean Miroslav) why? Why, for Ganja's sake, why?

The time to take out the trash is long overdue, Bill - starting with Alexander & Woods.

Wow, you don't have a problem with him tendered with 2nd round money?

He's a stiff, he has no business being on the roster. It's time to part ways with this guy, he did enough damage in the superbowl to last a lifetime. I'm actually shocked he wasn't released right after that game.

Awesome!! I was starting to worry that we might lose him...

He's getting paid 1.8 million and is a serviceable back-up with playing experience in this type of defense. On top of that, he also has some value as a STer. Considering the amount of money the Patriots have to work with this offseason, I don't see a problem here.

We have Pierre Woods..the Colts have Pierre Garcon......I want that 'other' Pierre

Just because Garcon can run a mean hitch doesn't make him an automatic fit in our offense.

Why do we pay him so much money if he never sees the field? Why wasn't he playing over the useless AD just to get some experience? How does BB think these guys will develop if they never see the field? It's weird.

Woods is a special teams guy and career backup, and he's fairly competent in that role. He's not a starter, nor will he ever "develop" into one.

Well can't you pay another street FA half of that salary to do the same damn job as "Mr. Can't hold onto a historic game changing fumble" ? Send him packing.........All done with Pierre Woods.

That sounds like an awful lot of money for a guy who's a decent Special Teamer, but let's face it, he ain't Mosi Tatupu either. And he had a chance to step up on D last year and couldn't.

I was a big fan of his potential coming out in the draft and mentioned his name as UDFAs I'd like to see in a Pats uni. But now, after a few years in the system he's shown himself to be a jag at best, and IMO that's too much for what Woods adds.

This would guarantee that Mankins will be receiving at least the first-round tender (the second highest).

If they tender Woods at the second-round level, and tendered Mankins at the lowest tender (original round compensation), the CBA says all they can get if they lose Mankins is a second.
