He cited a number of possible landing spots. Unfortunately, we were not on the list:

Karlos Dansby

Well, I hope he goes to the Phins. That's one less team in the running for McClain.

Pats are known for just coming out of the woodwork, getting a deal done fast, and making a big splash. When you hear big rumors over time (ie Peppers) it's probably not going to happen. BB just loves to keep a poker face on everything he does. Even poker.

Ridiculous.

Some guy who may make it.

Or, a guy who is already a beast of a defensive player and will get better.

Well hopefully he doesn't have some personal grudge type problem with the Patriots that makes him want to say no thanks to any offer they conjure up. If the Pats could get him I'd be pretty giddy going into the draft (assuming Wilfork remains), but I'm not holding out hope.

As nice as it would be to have a player of Dansby's caliber here, especially at a major area of need--I can't really pretend that I'm shocked.

Financial concerns + many of our own FA's to sign + downcreased spending in an uncapped year = no major FA's of Dansby's caliber (IMO anyway).

Since Brady has never reached a contract year, and we have some major pieces to sign here first, (Bodden, Wilfork, Faulk, etc) I'd be quite surprised to see us give 10+ million/per to anyone else right now.

There will still be plenty of cuts/more minor FA's on a lesser pay scale, some of who they will probably give a look to.

(Not that I wouldn't be just as excited as the next guy regarding top-tier FA's)

If we can't get Dansby then I would rather see him with the Giants as their MLB then with Miami.

Chris Gocong FTW!

Misleading title. He didn't say anything about the Pats, just that other teams were possible destinations. Doesn't exclude the possibility that he could sign with New England, although that seems unlikely.

I wish it were more likely, because we definitely need a guy like Dansby to play the strong side ILB position. That does not appear to be Mayo's forte.

I'd love to see Dansby (or a similar ILB) here because I believe you build strong defenses up the middle. But I'm reserving any judgment of what Mayo can or cannot do until I see him in a non-rookie year without a knee injury.

The title of this thread is totally misleading. Nowhere in the linked information does it even imply that Dansby has ruled out the Patriots. For all we know is the teams that are mentioned were brought up by Adam Schein and not Dansby at all. It definitely seems from Schein's tweet that Dansby was responding to a question whether he would want to go to the Giants.

This is a nonstory. From what I can see Dansby hasn't ruled out any team at this point.

Well he might be good, Dansby that is, but isn't he in a 4-3 now?

Anyway, He'd be very expensive, I'd hate to have another 4 years of misery, a la AD if it doesn't work out.

I think we should sink or swim with guys we draft and castoffs who are cheap but fit our system. That's the way we won all those SBs.

So, I'd pass on this guy.

Dansby just wants to get paid, plain and simple. Look at the teams he listed as possible destinations. They all have serious question marks, especially on defense, and have a lot of cap room.

Do they have lots of cap room? With all the players the Chargers have to resign plus the big deals in recent years they have doled out to retain players, I don't think the Chargers have lots of cap room. With no cap. the Chargers are not a team that generates a lot of revenue compared to the big guys. The Dolphins seem to have money issues which is the reason they let all these celebrities buy into the ownership. The Redskins might spend like crazy with no cap, but they have had cap issues the last few years and just have given Haynesworth a ridiculous contract.

Make it so.

I knew you would approve :)

I'd love to see Gocong here, he can play SLB in the 4-3, and I believe he could play SILB in the 3-4.

Dansby will come at high price...doubt he lands here

Peppers coming here is a better chance IMO

Although I would never bet a single penny on it, I wouldn't be totally shocked if both players came here. It is a definite long shot (somewhere under 5% of a chance), but Belichick's history is when this team starts to show weaknesses that affects them in the win/loss column he is agressive to fix (rebuilding the secondary in 2003 or rebuilding the WR corp and getting a LB to cover TEs in 2007).

And before I get flamed, I am not predicting it will happen and I believe it probably won't, but it wouldn't shock me if it did happen.

I do agree that based on what each player will probably command vs. similiar players for their respected positions I think Peppers will be cheaper. Yes, he will probably make more money, but that is because 3-4 OLBs/4-3 DEs get paid a lot more than MLB/ILBs. But compared to other players ate their relative positions, Dansby might end up being the highest paid player at his position. Peppers probably won't and might not be in the top 5 or even top 10 because of his age and reputation of slacking at times.
