Giants cut Antonio Pierce; Should Pats make a run for him?

Why?!? Roman Phifer was over 30 when he got here. So was Seau (who played at a high level). Why would you have a problem in getting a LB over 30 if he is can fill a roll on this team and not cost too much? There aren't going to be many LBs who are younger than 27 available in free agency since they will all be RFAs.

The Pats problem isn't that they were getting old veteran. They are just getting the wrong old veterans. This year is the year that a strategy like that will pay off though since a lot of teams will be dumping veterans who still can play, but are not playing up to their huge roster bonuses due.

You would think that after the Rodney Harrison signing, people would realize that 30+ yo vets can be great signings. Just because someone else thinks a player is washed up doesn't mean he is, and guys like that can offer a ton of value and really help put a team over the top (see: Darren Sharper). Based on what I saw last season, I think that, if anything, the Pats need to make a concerted effort to get some high-character, reasonably priced vets. That team was clearly lacking leadership, and it showed on the field.

That said, no way on Pierce. It'll be interesting to see how quickly the NFLPA folds once more and more cases like this happen. They say they're prepared, but I really, really doubt it.

he is 32 years old and is only 6.1 238lbs to small. and only had 55tackels last year.


Rocky McIntosh, would be a much better. he is only 27 and had all most a 100 tackels. but i don't think he would be much better then guyton. if it's not going to be one of the big name ILB's then there is no reason to sign one go with guyton and draft one in the late rounds for dept.

Hey some logic, thanks. Nothing wrong with an older vet on the defense. I could give a rat's ass if he wore black, is arrogant, said this or that. Can he play football? That is the only answer that I care about.

Interesting, given that our talent this year was better than last year, but we didn't do as well, the difference being the attitudes and behaviors in the locker room due to the lack of leaders.

Gathering players based on talent alone doesn't build a good team unless you are playing fantasy football.

Ask any Giants fan, they will tell you that he's a shell of his former self, however, they'll also tell you that he's one of the smartest players in the nfl. Almost like having an extra DC on the field.

I don't think he fits the 3-4, plus i don't think ILB is a need, so no.

if bru was not starting due to age slowing him down not sure what this guy can bring learning a new system and being injury prone.

The Pats last year made a commitment to getting younger on D and were willing to pay a price on the field for doing that. Bringing on a guy like Pierce would run in the face of that.

As a leader he would be great. For a player to be countede on I say no way. I watched a couple of Giants games last year and he was a player other teams went after. The game that stood out most was when they played the Eagles and went after him and he could not keep up and they just out ran him.

This is a passing leauge we need speed and size. Do I think we need a upgrade at LB, Guyton has done nothing for me and gets pushed out of the hole.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in veterans who can make plays and win you games. The key is making sure that they help the young players develop and tow the party line.

To your point, not sure Pierce is the right guy for this team..

It's funny to read these responses. I guarantee most of these people would find a way to like him if the Pats sign him, even though I doubt it happens.
