Arthur Jones Scouting Report
Final word: Jones is flying far below the radar, especially after Gerald McCoy and Brian Price declared and Dan Williams emerged. But also causing the low profile are some serious injury concerns. He tore a pectoral muscle in the 2009 offseason and saw his senior year shortened by a torn left lateral meniscus.

Jones is an attractive prospect because his ability to play the 3-4 or 4-3. This would allow teams the luxury of presenting different looks on defense.

Jones’ injuries may have knocked him out of the first 50 picks of the draft, but he’s a very good player. Despite his injuries, Big East head coaches named him a first-team all-conference player in 2009.

Comes from an athletic family. His brother is UFC star-in-the-making Jon “Bones” Jones.

Great idea. I was just thinking that we should start separate threads for each position and talk about prospects and scouting reports, but as usual you beat me to the punch. :p

Jones is one of my favorite players this year, and while I feel bad for him because of his injuries, I'm also excited at the thought of picking up a borderline 1st round talent in the late 2nd or early 3rd. I think he would be an instant upgrade over Green, and has considerably scheme versatility. Great handfighter. Excellent understanding of leverage. Suh is the only 34 end I would take ahead of him in this draft, but when you consider the difference in value (top 3 vs top 75), Jones allows the team more flexibility in their draft.

Koa Misi from Utah. Maybe a good 4th round pick. Looks like he would be a 3-4 LB.

Are there in this draft some 3-4 end that are good in pass-rushing situation?

He's my #1 OLB candidate - the one whom I consider the most NFL ready as a NE 3-4 OLB. I'll be posting him in the LB thread when I find a profile to share.

Cory Wooton was a Big-10 4-3 DE who often slid inside to DT on passing downs, he's a good pass rushing candidate at RDE for NE, though his reported college weight numbers indicate he needs to bulk up another 15 lbs - watching him in Northwestern's bowl game against Auburn, he looked closer to 290 than 280 to me. His legs and butt have filled out more since the previous bowl game after the 2008 season when he appeared to have chicken legs - perhaps it was a blessing for him from NE's standpoint to have the knee injury and have to work through rehab.

Jared Odrick, Tyson Alualu, and Arthur Jones are reputed to be good penetrators. Odrick and Alualu looked good at the Senior Bowl. Odrick's length is more of what BB has looked for in a top 3-4 DE, long arms to fend off the OT and to clog the throwing lanes.

Jason Pierre-Paul and Austen Lane can go either way as an OLB or bulk up for DE, but they're both very raw right now.

Alex Carrington showed some impressive strength and a strong bull rush at the Senior Bowl, if he can add 10 lbs and pick up some new moves he could be quite good at collapsing the pocket.

Wow. I don't know what tape he was watching but I completely disagree. I haven't seen too many people his size move like he does.

I dunno either, but then I haven't paid much attention to Dunlap. :confused2:

There is some Youtube stuff out there on him that is pretty good. He isn't perfect but then again who is? He IS a very rare combo of size and speed that I think we should take a really good look at. What also isn't clear is if he is better off adding 15 lbs. and playing 3-4 DE or losing 10-15 lbs. and playing OLB. I think Mayo is in on this one with me.
