Hes a flipper head...

love the headline of the story:

"These e-mailers are happy writing about a wrong"

That's funny Boston Globe, 98 percent of your sports writers/columnists LOVE writing about Boston Sports "wrong's" or "problems" ALL THE FIRGGIN TIME.

They must have forgot what happened to the last journalist ("Tomase") who got on our wrong side. Don't mess with us Boston Globe, if you report BS we will call you out on it.

Except for a few reporters, I think they have been reporting BS for quite some time. Mr. Shaughnessy leads that great group and the recent addition of Mr. Masserotti (don't even bother responding with the correct name please) had this motely group quite lively.

I read the piece and, while I noticed that Dan didn't take back what he said (he just acknowledged the heat he was getting), I nonetheless concluded that it's this kind of article that makes me respect Shaugnessy a lot more than Bob Ryan.

Ryan is just so, so transparently sucking up to the suits at ESPN to get his few minutes of national face time every couple of days. The only way to do that is to jam Brady or the Patriots or, better yet, Belichick, because the yahoos in the ESPN viewer base will eat that **** up all day long.

So, Shaughnessy is a writer I can respect for putting out a follow-up like this. He expressed his opinion. Now, he's acknowledged its unpopularity and given his critics their say in print, with a little self-deprecating humor.

Ryan on the other hand comes across like a self-absorbed, self-important, self-righteous, grump of a snob who forgets that it's his access to the Patriots in the first place that enables him to have the standing with ESPN to say and write the garbage he produces.

Maybe the Patriots' media relations folks should take note of that.

And, maybe the Globe should take note that a measure-able segment of its reader base doesn't think Bob Ryan is all that worth reading any more.

I have to admit that I distinguish between Shaughnessy and Ryan (pls see my post right above or so). Dan at least comes out with this piece that gives his critics their say, with a little humor. Ryan repeatedly trashes the Pats on ESPN just to get air time on that network and doesn't seem to realize how badly most of the readers who pay his salary think of what he says.

To me, Ryan deserves the Tomass treatment.

They are both the same bitter crusty old-school douchebags. They don't know football. Shanknancy wrote more or less: "Manning is better than Brady, deal with it, and if you don't accept it, you don't know anything about football."

And that article may have acknowledged how much he pissed people off, but it is NOT a retraction nor is it an apology.

Not now. In 2010, you hear about what a dope you are before you pack up and leave the press box.

Especially in Boston. Especially if you type without pompoms dangling from your wrists.

Still gets the same amount of 0 respect from me.

yeah, but what do you expect him to do; he's a competitive guy with a big ego. at least he gave voice to those who disagreed with him and didn't disrespect them in doing so.

typical chb. he slams the fans with this making him sound objective when in reality he writes with knives in his wrists all the time.

and he doesn't owe an apology nor do i expect a retraction. he said what he thought, but he gave voice to those who disagreed with him. it's a lot more than others do.

our ultimate power is not to click on his byline or buy the paper...

i haven't bought a Horrald since Tomass wrote his article and I try to avoid clicking on its web site at all costs...

I understand your point, I just disagree. He's like a vast majority of the media in Boston. They feel they are above the fanbase, are smarter and "objective". They feel it is a DISS to be called a "fan". They try to make it seem that any nice word, respect or benefit of the doubt given to the team means you are wearing pompoms. Just because he had nothing else to write and posts a few user comments doesn't absolve him from his pompous, self-righteous attitude. I'm not going to give him credit for being slightly less worse than another pompous jerk.

And I mean in the same article he posts the reader emails, he prefaces it with that snide comment that the only way to avoid such comments is to wear pompoms.

I agree with you. The pompoms comment leaps out at me. In the context of this piece, it implies that to believe Brady is better than Manning is to wear pompoms. The whole piece is loaded with thinly veiled contempt for the readers. A few self-deprecating comments don't change that. Oh, and at the end, he basically said what many people here have long known...keep writing, it's good to know you care? That's sarcasm. It's all about the clicks. The outrage is much better for his job security than being rational or dealing in facts is.
