I just want for the Patriots to show some foresight and select an impact play-maker at wider receiver from this draft. Whether or not that proves to be Arrelious Benn, Golden Tate, Brandon LaFell, Mardy Gilyard or Demaryius Thomas. It'll be for them to decide.

Nevertheless, I hope the Patriots are in a position to select one of them or they're willing to take a chance on one of the aforementioned. Because this player and Edelman could be the future starting tandem at wide receiver for New England.

Benn is my current favorite for the Pats. I'd love to see him taken in the 2nd round. Decently big, fast, physical, playmaker who would be an ideal #2 across from Moss.

In my opinion, if Benn is indeed the consensus second rated wide receiver in the draft. Then New England will have no chance of selecting him even if he were to fall to the second round. Because there are too many teams selecting ahead of when New England will first select in the second round that all would need a potential top wide receiver. Among them, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Washington, Cleveland, Seattle, Buffalo and Miami.

Depending on how each of these teams value the depth at the position they already have, I don't see them all passing on Benn if he's there. I mean all the wide receivers I'd mentioned could be gone by the time New England's first pick in the second round comes up. For this reason, Belichick might want to consider selecting that wider receiver in the first round if he feels that he can be an impact player from week one. But I doubt he sees wide receiver as that high of a priority. He should... Especially, if he sees little that he likes in free agency.

I think right now the consensus pre-combine is Bryant is the clear #1 and after that it's pretty unclear. People have Benn ranging from the 2nd best to the 6th or 7th best on different sites. I've seen Tate rated as the 2nd best in many places too. Tate, Benn, Williams, Lafell, Thomas, Shipley, Gilyard are all kind of in that 2nd tier mix at the moment. Their stocks will probably be more clear after they run at the combine.

If we're going the size route, then Benn, Decker, White, Alexander, Cooper, Mike Williams (although those red flags are concerning), Ajirotutu, and Bryan Anderson are the ones under consideration.

I'd have included Freddie Barnes in there but he isn't that big or that fast and lacks a little explosion. Hopefully he shows something at his Pro-Day.

Yep, I want NE some Easley in the 6th or 7th rounds. If the Pats breakdown and draft Gilyard (2nd) or Antonio Brown (3-4), Easley, and sign Brian Anderson to a Free Agent contract I will think positive things about the receiving corps.

The guy who wrote this is obviously suffering some kind of inadequacy, but I thought the football observations were worth posting since they matched what I saw in the Shrine Game.

In the comments he said "Ah, of course I was pointing how a hard working, physically talented player with great stats can be rated a bit too low for, possibly, reasons not pertaining to skill".

I don't like how all white receivers are now "the next Welker". IMO, Blair compares to Massaquoi from last year.

If we're talking about selecting an impact wide receiver in this draft, let's not leave Damian Williams out of the conversation.

I don't see him being around when we pick at #22, or indeed worth using a first round pick on. He's polished and what not, but I like players with huge upside if we're picking in the first round. If he's there at #42 though, I'd have a hard time not picking him.

Easley didn't impress me at the TvN game. He rounded off many of his routes and it cost him at least 2 receptions.

Who did impress me was Juamorris Stewart. He seemed to run very precise routes and got good separation on his cuts.. Was willing to go over the middle.

Trendin Holiday also impressed me, but at 5'5 and 165lbs, if he's going to be a receiver, it will be from the slot more than likely, though he does have the speed to go deep.

Easley is very raw, which is why I like him late as a project. Stewart is very interesting. Holiday has suspect hands, he played well in the game, but during the week he put the ball on the ground numerous times.

Now if this scouting report is accurate, Benn is probably the guy that would give this offense an extra dimension.

Strengths: Prototype size, plays angry and aggressive, strong hands, talented route runner who can make quick cuts, fantastic YAC ability, can run the end-around, can catch balls over the middle.

Benn appears to have a good combo of size, route running ability, and quickness. I wouldn't pick a WR until round 2 though because I'd rather go Defense in round 1. If he lasts, Benn would be one of my top picks in round 2. Simply because he is strong enough to be that big, over the middle guy that the Pats haven't had since Givens, but obviously with a higher ceiling than a Givens. Benn could run those tough over the middle routes that Moss doesn't seem to like to run and leave Moss to do what he does best, stretching defenses. He's also tall, physical and, athletic enough to outleap DBs. Now Welker and Edelman are very nice slot players but I don't see them simply outleaping DBs for balls like a Benn could.

If Benn is not there, and he probably won't, than another guy I would like is the ultra talented and fast, Golden Tate. If both of those guys are gone. I'd probably wait till the mid rounds and pick up a polished possession receiver type since those guys usually drop, and pick up a speedster in free agency.

I know these are fairly 'safe' picks, but I'm not up to date on the 'dark horses' at WR yet. More information and better stock prediction becomes available after the Senior Bowl and Combine have been completed and the numbers are in.
