I hope the Patriots move Maroney in the offseason.

I doubt he has much value, but the Lions are in the market for a RB.
Kevin Smith ACL injury makes them a good target for a trade.

I would ask for their 3rd round pick which is a real high 3rd round pick.
A Belichick type trade would be to ask for their 2nd round pick in 2011.

Shanahan loved Maroney because he is at his best following zone blocking.
Shanahan and the Redskins may part with a 2011 pick to score Maroney
with Portis a major question mark because of injuries.

Maroney has talent, but in my eyes he has a lack of football instincts.

I have seen enough... it is time to move on.....

I think he has a lot of vaue to a team with a decent line, varied enough offense to cause uncertainty about the play, etc.

I don't think they'd give a 3rd when he only has like one year left on his contrct. Maybe a 6th.

Shannahan loved him coming out of college. Maybe Washington would make a good trade partner. I can't see him being a part of this team, even with his friendly cap number!

So this really isn't a thread about whether Maroney will be with the Patriots, and it's just another Maroney bashing thread?

Yes, he will be with the team.

Your point is?????

Yes, he'll be with the team.

There's no cap benefit to cutting him and at the very least, he's quality depth even if the team makes a major move at RB.

I was going to make a Happy Birthday Maroney thread yesterday but I figured better not as we had a nice streak of no Maroney bashing for some time... and here we go

Maroney-bashing is going to last a little longer before he's off the team.

Getting benched in a playoff game is about as final as it can ever get.

You think he will be traded/cut then?

I just don't see the upside to doing either, we won't save enough or get enough in return. And there's too many other needs IMO to upgrade him.

If we could get a 3rd round pick for him, sure I'd trade him. We've seen what he can do. He's a fairly average RB with below average vision and above average speed along with questionable health. But I don't think we'll get that high of a pick for him, so likely he'll just be back to run out the final year of his contract.

Perhaps the 'contract year' will magically motivate Maroney to put out his best year ever. The 3.9 ypc year along with the benchings at the end of the season had to be seen as a regression. Maroney hadn't had problems with fumbles until 2009, I really don't know what's wrong with the kid, maybe its all in his head?

He will and should be a Patriot but the Pats need to look for a eventual replacement.

If it were possible, I'd trade him and Light to the Chiefs for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Then use that pick on a new RB.

cuting him to keep three. RB's over 30. when maroney dose not take up much cap is crazy IMO. they are not going to get much for him in a trade. and tradeing some one a way just to be tradeing them with out a upgrade. again not a good move.

you have to add to the team you can't just subtract. take a way marony. and Kevin Faulk, and he's 300 yerds is the leading rusher. they traded away hobbs. and the kickreturn game was a joke. they traded away seymour. and the run D and pass rush was a joke. you have to replace some one if your going to trade them.

hmmm i could go either way

1) i hope he does get one more chance, he was getting better until he started to fumble

2) if cutting im brings stability to the RB position (Fred taylor being our feature back) then i guess i would be fine with it

Good question er bashing...

Geez, I keep going back and forth about LMO. Some days I wonder if he's right, the more carries he gets the better he becomes. Or if he is just a bust all together. He doesn't seem very mature to me from the interviews i've seen of him on 'Patriots Today'...

dump him and grab Ben Tate in the draft.

Yes to 2010 and 4 more years!

Sign this beast of a RB.
