Chatting with XAM Sports Clients Austen Lane (tonight) and Citadel WR Andre Roberts (soon). Any questions for them about the Senior Bowl you want answered?

For Roberts:

Do you consider route running the best aspect of your game?

For Lane:
Do you see yourself playing in a 2 point stance at the next level? Or do you think your better suited playing on the line?

Thanks, NeP.

For Lane:
Had you practiced OLB drills while at college, and have you increased the practice of those drills now? Also, have you been told - on or off the record - by coaches & scouts what your best pro position may be?

For Roberts:
What surprised you most about competing during Senior Bowl week? Also, what aspect(s) of your game have coaches & scouts told you need the most work in order to secure a top-100 selection?

For Lane:

1. You have the same agent as one of last year's hot prospects, Connor Barwin, with whom you share certain characteristics in terms of raw physical ability and potential. Has he compared your situation with Barwin's? What discussions have you had with your agent about positioning yourself as a 3-4 OLB vs. a 4-3 DE? What kind of training regimen have you adopted that might improve your agility as a 3-3 OLB? Has your agent put you in touch with Barwin for advice about the draft process?

2. Based on your experience at the Senior Bowl, what is the aspect of your game that you feel needs the most work as a 4-3 DE? As a 3-4 OLB?

3. Your teammate on the North squad, Brandon Graham, was voted MVP of the Senior Bowl. Analyze and compare his style of play with your own. Do you see him more as 4-3 DE or as a 3-4 OLB?

4. Which one of your teammates on the North squad of the Senior Bowl most impressed you, and why.

5. What first flashed through your mind when you recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the Senior Bowl.

Okay - Talked with Austen.

Austen Lane interview

Patriots did interview him. Interested at multiple positions. Nice forty prediction.

Nice job....

Thanks. Last year the only guy I could get to do an interview was Connor Barwin -- bless his heart. This year things have gone much better.

Box - were you talking about Deji Karim back a few weeks ago? I've going to talk to him next week, and I really don't have a solid read on him.

I believe he's listed in some of the TX v. Nation links I've posted, but I don't know much about him.

EDIT: Looks like Seneschal2 is your man.

I remember your Barwin interview, and appreciated your questions. Love your site.

I'm not Box (and not even close to being as cool as he is), but I'm really interested in Deji Karim. I think he can be a Ray Rice sort of player in a year or two. Seems to run with great balance, power, and agility. He's low to the ground and surprisingly fast. Catches well. Gives effort blocking. Great acceleration. I'm a fan.

From my parent's basement (okay attic) I say wow, I'm cool! :pigsfly:

Anyone got some vids of Lane, can't find them anywhere

Only his 2008 highlights, but it's better than nothing. I like how well he moves. Needs to develop more counter-moves, and might be a bit light against the run, but he's got great potential. Enjoy. :)

Color me impressed. A play that actually really stood out to me was at the 2:40 mark. Most wouldn't think much of this play. But he displays two things too many outside backers in the NFL don't display enough, and must. He breaks down very well, and he keeps contain. Great fundamental play. Granted Desean Jackson is running tha reverse and he might need to react a little quicker, but when you give a guy the option of running into you, or running back toward the big boys he's gonna hesitate if you do it properly.

I think the bit light for the run part of things isn't going to be a problem anymore: Senior Bowl weigh-in results and analysis | National Football Post

6'6" 267 is Willie Mac range - and that's before the Pro conditioning programs.
