He seems to be a more violent tackler/leader.

He has good size also, 6'3" 260 or so.

I think he's a go in the late 1st/mid 2nd round.

violent tackling boesn't buy you much, except accelerated wear and tear on your body.

I believe mcclain to be the only one with the complete package in defending both run and pass

I wouldn't mind him in the second round. great tackler, good leader. played in the SEC, national championship teams.

You're right, he hits hard, that's not good. We need more Monty Beisel types, they tend to last forever as they avoid contact.

Spikes is likely the best fit for our roster. If Florida had made the BCS Championship Game, and 'Bama hadn't, we might be talking about the two in more equal terms.

McClain is clearly more versatile, Spikes is a thumper with some coverage ability. That's what we need.

i would take spikes in the 2nd over trading up for McClain anyday

Spikes? Damn my lying eyes, but no thanks. :snob:

No way is he as good as McClain. And no I would not want him in the 1st or 2nd round. He doesn't have great speed, takes bad angles, doesn't wrap up, and is always around the ball carrier but never making impact plays. He gets pushed back too easily and can't get off blocks that well IMO.

There are some good videos on YouTube from Universal Draft.

In complete agreement with you on this. He seems to always be showing up a half second too late to make the play. He's no McClain

Maybe we should just draft a 2 down Jasper Brinkley type later, and call it a day.

It was only a matter of time before we agreed on something. ;)
Can't talk right now...

No. No he isn't.

No, McClain isn't as good as McClain.

The resl issue for me is whether Spikes would or would not significantly help our defense.

No Spikes isn't worth a #12 pick by the patriots, but is he worth a #22 or a #32 or a #42 or a #52 or a #62 or a #72 or even a #82?

I think he's better than any SILB we have or are likely to have. Beggars can't be choosers.

HE's a strong guy, stronger than Guyton, he could learn to shed. Supposedlyh has good ffootball IQ and a nose for the ball. FLorida Defense did markedly better when he was in than out.

...and he played almost his entire senior season with a bad hamstring.

If he's there with that first 2nd round pick, they should take him. He might even be worth moving up for and drafting early in the 2nd. Our LB corps is awful. The only player really worth keeping is Mayo, the rest are all close to being replacement level players.

I think he may be worth one of the 2nd round choices. The statement is accurate that most of the linebackers on the team are not good. The team should bring in as many linebackers as they can.
