I know I shouldn't let what these clowns say bug me, but this morning they brought stupid to a whole new level.

The morning crew was going off about Moss and his shoulder injury (which is no surprise as Randy Moss bashing is pretty much all the Pats coverage you will get on 98.5) and then Toucher spun it around saying that the way the Patriots handle things will keep free agents from wanting to sign here.

This was so foolish on so many levels.

First off, what exactly did the Patriots do that was wrong? He was injured, they listed his injury, weeks later when he was not in doubt of playing they removed his name from the injured list.

Second, why the HELL would this keep a potential FA from wanting to come here? Because the Pats keep things quiet? The Colts have been keeping mum about Freeny's injury for a week and a half and I don't see anybody whining about that. And they are playing in the Super Bowl!
Or is 98.5 trying to imply that Moss' injury shows a lack of leadership and some confusion in the Front Office? If this was something that kept free agents from signing, how would the Redskins ever sign a free agent? That FO is the second most screwed up in the NFL (sorry Raiders).

Third, and this is more of a rant about the state of the Boston media than anything else, why-oh-why do we have so many radio guys in this town that flat out HATE this team? Everything the Pats -especially BB and Randy Moss- do gets blown out of proportion to the Nth degree! The list of radio host haters in this market is astounding: D & C, Felger, Mazz, Borges, Tomase and a half dozen other douches make their living bashing the Patriots. I travel a bit for work and listen to other markets sports radio a little bit. You almost never hear the home team bashing you do in this town. EEI Had one true "Homer" on their crew and they canned his fat ass! It something that has been bugging me for a while now.

Anyway, did anybody else hear this crap? I guess I should get a satellite radio and be done with this crap, but I do like some radio shows around here: Dale and Holley, DA on the SportsHub at night.

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

They're a poor man's shock jock show trying to talk sports.

Don't bother listening to these idiots. Like you said NOOOOO other team is secrative about injuries.

I can tell you the 3 primary things a FA cares about:

1. Money
2. Playing Time (see # 1)
3. Chance to win a championship
4. Weather

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

I don't listen to radio shows but I can't figure out if they're complaining that the Patriots played an injured player or that they weren't informed of the injury.

I hope T&R poor rating scares off 98.5 from resigning them to another contract.

Just ignore Beavis and Bntthead.

I couldn't either! I think the point might have been that Moss played hurt and because of the Pats not putting it on the injury report, it made Moss look bad because he wasn't playing at his best. It's a moronic point, but I think it's the one they were trying to make.

Bottom line is half the crew are big Jets fans and I think they like to say these stupid things in the hope that it becomes true.

They could be p!ssed that their team won't be signing any free-agents this off-season because they're a "final four" team.

Listening to 98.5 for any talk show other than the D.A. show (or during WEEI commercial breaks) is your mistake right there. ;)

What's so great about DA? I mean, he says like two sentences and the says the 98.5 call-in number over and over again. I tried to listen to him once and that's all it was. Semi-coherent sports opinion. Phone number. Caller. Semi-coherent sports opinion. Number. Opinion. Number. Opinion. Number. Commercial.

The bar has been set pretty low around here. What you described makes him the Walter Cronkite of Boston sports radio!

I'm not old enough to remember Walt but I have heard him speak and he didn't fill up his speech with verbal static (i.e. - giving out the call-in number every two seconds)

For once in a good while Deus and I have been in agreement on a few issues. I agree.

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

We've been hearing year after year after year that free agents will no longer come to play for the Pats.

Except for Poole, about every football player plays hurt.

To say that Moss looks bad because his play suffered because he played hurt is ridiculous. What they mean is that THEY look stupid for saying he didn't play well when he had a reason.

Moss looks GOOD for playing hurt, not bad. No one said McNabb looked bad because it turned out he played with a sports hernia, or any of a number of QBs who played with an injury that was only revealed aafter the season. If every team that hid an injury was unable to sign a free agent, free agents wouldn't be able to sign anywhere.

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

So, are they saying that players would rather the Pats be completely forthright about their injuries so that opposing teams can key in on them? If the other teams' DBs knew that Moss was playing with a separated shoulder, they would be pulling at it and laying an extra lick every time they could get away with it.

As it was, they may have known he was hurt, but at least they couldn't target the exact area of injury.

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

My point in my previous post is why care about what people are saying on the outside of the organization when you have a player, like Ty Law, say he still felt part of the organization after he left (& not on the best terms)..

someone on 98.5 thought we need a topic today with it being SB week.. So how about this.. "pats handling of Moss injury will effect free agents coming here".. Lets get real, non of these guys have insider information that is 100% guaranteed.. They can't pick what Free Agent is coming, what player we'll pick in the draft, or even how or game plan will be for the upcoming opponent.. To many times we hear they need to run the ball and we see th pats come out in 4 or 5 WR.. We hear, Pats need to play more man to man to match up and we see zone played a significant amt of time..

As long as BB, Brady and Kraft run the show, FA will come here..

These are the same guys who converted from hard rock frat boy DJs to sports frat boy DJs to save their jobs, correct? The day they know anything worth knowing about the Pats is the day the Pats make me GM.

Last week, both stations were talking about if they franchise Wilfork, it would scare away free agents (as if the Pats were going to be the first team to ever franchise a player). Now it is the handling of the injury (where Belichick and Brady and everyone else in the organization went overboard to defend Moss when the media attacked which never happens with the Pats) will hurt them is the latest rant du jor.

That is why Boston sports radio sucks. It may not be better in many places in the county, but if you look you can find quality sport talk. Just not very much on either 98.5 nor WEEI. If you get 3-4 hours a day of decent sports talk, you are lucky on any given day.

The morning drive shows are the only real bad ones...Toettcher and Rich on 98.5 and D&C on EEI. T&R is all about a few immature giggles while D&C talk about politics or whatever headline du jour strikes their fancy to rant on about.

Neither show talks sports, unless it is in a negative form. I have to say, T&R excluded, TheSportsHub has far less overtalking, less arguing, and more actual informative discussion...

Re: 98.5 Morning Crew:pats Handeling Of Moss Injury Will Scare Off Free Agents

Listening to sports talk in the NE market is a waste of time as a whole. If you're gonna be an @ss, at least be funny.
