What is your biggest regret with regards to your coaching career?

Bill Parcells, Miami Dolphins
Hi Dan, probablty having to leave the New England Patriots

Re: Parcells Coaching Regret

HAVING TO....?

Bill, are you getting senile? You CHOSE to leave New England and f'ed them over in the Super Bowl by coaching with your head already firmly in New York.

Re: Parcells Coaching Regret

interesting choice of words there....bet he regretsseeing Little Bill go off and win 3 SB's with a lot of HIS draft picks...

Hey BB, you gettin' this ?

Don't make the same mistake BP did. :D

Yeah, I don't get Bill at all for saying that.

Just to show how untrustworthy that quote is, Bill left the Jets, and a year later he was coaching the Cowboys. That's how he rolls.

Unless there was something truly screwed up in the Kraft-Parcells relationship that we don't know about, the keys were taken away from Parcells AFTER he refused to sign up for an extension.

As I remember it, Parcells had a clause in his contract that forced him to coach the Patriots have five years, or else he could leave with a buyout. After the Patriots went 5-11, Parcells approached Kraft and asked him to rework the contract by removing the extra year and the buyout clause. Kraft did so, but only while insisting that Parcells could not move on to coach another NFL team.

After the change was made, Parcells chafed under the new contract and he word is, he started playing footsie with the Jets.

That's when Kraft screwed him on the groceries, but Kraft had no choice at that point. What else could he do? Parcells just wanted to avoid the buyout. He likes his money, but he got annoyed when he realized that the contract change meant Kraft could no longer trust him with the long-term future of the franchise.

maybe we dont know the whole story

I doubt it. I think he phrased it that way because he wanted to stay but his ego wouldn't let him. That's why he "had" to leave.

I thought he would say kicking to Howard in the Super Bowl vs GB.

It really is too bad that the Pats forced Parcells to call the Jets during the week leading up to the Super Bowl rather than only preparing for the game. Mean, mean Pats.

Well, he wasn't in the draft room for Milloy and Bruschi.

If he "had" to leave, why would he label it a regret? A regret is something you wish you didn't choose to do.

The best part is that, given everything that happened afterwards, I bet every Pats fan, on the whole, is glad that it all happened the way it did (if Parcells stays, we can't be sure that we ever get Belichick as HC...)

He probablty does and I can see why.

At this point I have no desire to kick ol' BP for his perceived transgressions.
We did have a dynasty with the core of players being guys that went back to his regime.
Furthermore, when he says he HAD to leave, I'm quite sure he meant it that way as the line in the sand he drew was crossed and that did force him into his decision to leave.
I am grateful to Parcells but as a fan, I remain loyal to BB as HC of the NEP.:rocker:

Parcells regrets that he didn't spend more time with patriots. And for saying this, we should flame him??????

And Curtis Martin, Troy Brown, Drew Bledsoe, Ben Coates. And in a roundabout way, Belichick. That team could have really become a dynasty 5 years earlier if he hadn't "Had To" leave.

Time heals most wounds. I consider our franchise fortunate to have him for the time he was here. Sure, I was upset the way he left but I'm ok now. More importantly if BP doesn't come here then Kraft may never of had the chance to develop a relationship with Belichick.

Like him or not he is the King of turning crappy franchises into winners. I wish he was our GM right now. His drafting has been fantastic, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Sure would of been interesting.
