New one round mock from Nolan Nawrocki at ProFootballWeekly:

ProFootballWeekly.com - Mock draft: Defensive tackles dominate

He has the Pats taking WR Golden Tate at 22. My "dream" scenario is within reach in his draft, as he has CJ Spiller going #20 to Houston and Carlos Dunlap #24 to Philadelphia. But he also has Joe Haden going #19 to Atlanta, which I think is ridiculous, as Haden will be gone 10 picks earlier.

Not a very good mock, FWIW.

You never know about Haden he could drop. There seems to be always someone falling in the draft whether it be Rodgers, Quinn. Wilfork, Stephen Jackson.. Anything is possible.

I also believe if McClain falls that far we are trading up for him don't you think?

Yeah, I wouldn't take Tate that high. Seems like this is a relatively deep WR class - probably even the mid rounders will turn out better than all but two of the 2006 WRs (Santonio Holmes and Greg Jennings). I'm not as hot on Spiller or Haden as I once was and I've never liked Dunlap. I'd go for Graham at #22 over just about anybody, if he's even still on the board at that point.

i don't see Joe Haden, geting passed the Giants. and Rolando McClain, i have him going to the 49ers

i could see Jason Pierre-Paul, being a top 5 pick cause he will have a amazing combine.

i can't see the pats takeing a WR in the first round. it feels like ever year. there is at lest one WR taken in the first round. that is a bust. will there is all ways one or two WR taken in the 7th round that turns in to a good WR.

Does that mean you shouldnt take a wideout in the first, no. Just because teams seem to be able to get good value in the later rounds and higher picks turn into busts from time to time at the WR positions is not enough of a reason to pass on a good one. More times than not, WR in the first two rounds are more productive than those taken in the later rounds.

yes but Golden Tate, is not one of dose guys that if he is there at #22 you just have to have him. at best he will be as good as Deion Branch, 60 to 70 rec 700 to 800 yerds a season. i think Julian Edelman, will have 80+ rec this year. tate. is not a most have. type guy.

Sergio Kindle, Jared Odrick, Dan Williams, Mike Iupati, Donovan Warren, i would take any one of dose guys over tate at pick #22

if tate is there in the 2th round then yes i take him

Haden dropping - possible, but unlikely. If he is truely the #1 at his position, he will be gone before pick #19. The first cornerback is usually chosen in the mid-teen at the latest. The top collegiate cornerbacks are obviously are in high demand. That trend should continue this year as well unless Haden has some medical concerns.

CORNERBACKS: First Taken Round 1
2009 14 New Orleans Saints Malcolm Jenkins Cornerback Ohio State
2008 11 Buffalo Bills Leodis McKelvin Cornerback Troy
2007 14 New York Jets ] Revis, Darrelle Cornerback Pittsburgh
2006 15 St. Louis Rams Tye Hill Cornerback Clemson
2005 6 Tennessee Titans Adam Jones Cornerback West Virginia
2004 8 Atlanta Falcons DeAngelo Hall Cornerback Virginia Tech
2003 5 Dallas Cowboys Terence Newman Cornerback Kansas State
2002 5 San Diego Chargers Quentin Jammer Cornerback Texas

If McClain falls that far he could drop all the way to 22 because of team needs.

You look at the teams picking between 16-21 and you can easily see some of those teams taking Spiller or Haden or offensive tackles ahead of McClain. The Bengals, for instance, found their MLB last year.

I would have no problem with the Patriots taking Dez Bryant at #22 but other than him, I don't want a WR at that position.

I have no problem with Tate at 22. He has a ton of production and knows the system. We need to hit the ground running on offense next year. There is no other reciever in this draft I would rather have. No Welker till who knows when, we have offensive issues......He's on my short list at 22. Ideally I would love to get him a few picks lower and get an extra pick at the top of round 2 but that doesn't seem likely......

What Tate can do really well is fight for the ball when it's in the air. He had decent size and excellent speed. But the way he can orientate his body to shield off the defender is simply amazing.

I bet he's the closest thing to Jerry Rice we've seen in several years. The best prospect I've seen since Larry Fitzgerald came out of Pittsburgh (whom the Pats reportedly coveted at the time).

And Tate's skills should translate really well to the pros. He also has leadership qualities and is durable. He should be a big threat on kickoff returns. Having Matthew Slater or Kevin Faulk returning kicks and punts doesn't work well enough.

Excellent points! I have Tate as the #1 WR on my Pats type players draft board. I am not sure he is a 3 down player which is the only reason I do not give him a first round grade.

i must admit, if mcclain, spiller and haden drop like that and we don't get one, i'll be bummed. spiller in rd 1 and tate in the 2nd sure would cure alot of our offensive ills. not all of them. but alot.

is it too early to get excited for the draft ?

Yikes... I remembet when maroney and jackson were suppose to do the same.

I want D the first few picks. This team needs players who can penetrate and scare qb's.
You can find solid rb's in the later 2n and on.

On paper those two would be electric additions to our offense.

Offense wins games and defense wins championships. The lesson of 2007!

I am with you on this one.
It would be nice to have a Dez Bryant or C.J. Spiller playing for us.
If we get a FA pass rusher maybe BB goes this route in the first.

Speaking of FA's,does anybody know if Snee is a FA? He would solve the hole if Neal retires.
