He will actually make more than any other DT did in 2009 other than Tommy Harris. It isn't the job security he wants, but it doesn't suck either.

$437K per game which is why he won't be sitting out. Almost a million every two games. I don't give a crap about these players complaining about being Franchised, if we Franchised him twice he'd make at least $15.4 Million over two years (minimum 20% increase for the second tag) and then be an untaggable FA.

Now Vince's comment about the franchise tag being decent money makes sense, it's only 7 million.

You do realize that it is the average of the top 5 DT salaries in 2009. You do realize that only Tommy Harris made more as a DT in 2009. It isn't great money, but based on the position it is pretty good for an one year salary. If he was a DE, it would be great money, but DTs just don't make what DEs make. It is one of the lowest paid positions on the defense.

Thanks for the numbers.

Sorry Vince - that is a no-brainer, you are getting tagged, my friend. I know he may not deserve it, but as a business move, it makes no sense not to tag him and then either work it out from there, or trade him.

Unfortunately for Vince it's what he's worth - top five DT. He's not a 15 sack game changer. He's great at what he does but it's it's a limited, though still important, role.

As fans we look at the one year franchise tag salary of 7m, compare it to what his peers make for one year, and say it is really good $, more than all but a select few at the position.

As players and agents they look at the one year franchise tag salary of 7m and compare it to what they would get in guarenteed $ for a long term contract as an unrestricted FA - say only 7m versus maybe 25-30m. To them that $ in their pocket today is all that matters because in the NFL you aren't promised tomorrow's $ like you are in other sports. When Vince says he is being paid as an OK player by the Pats he means that OK players get deals with 7m guarenteed, although for more than 1 year. I don't agree completely with that but that is where he is coming from.

What players hate about the franchise tag is they have little choice but to take on the injury risk of never getting that significant additonal $ that they could make today if they weren't tagged.

Ditto, Like I've been saying tagging Vince makes all the sense in the world for the Pats. I know he won't like it, but like TO's agent/girlfriend says, Vince will have 7 million reasons to dael with it...

I'd curious to see if Oakland franchises Seymour. I don't think he's worth anywhere close to $12M.

However your value of Seymour differs from Al Davis's value which is can be quite interesting so say the least..

Nothing has changed. As with Cassell, there is every reason to use the tag, and no downside. After all, if the tag isn't used, we'll have no Wilfork and get a 2012 3rd for him IF we lose more free agents than we sign.

After the team tags Wilfork, then we can have a few hundred posts discussing resolution. I don't see Wilfork pasing up game payments.

7 million is good money it's not the 9 or 10 million with 20+ million guaranteed. thats he is looking for but thats all he will get from the pats i think they are going to trade him.

That is if he can convince the Patriots that if he signs the tender, that they won't franchise him in 2011. That is the likely scenario if he plays under the tender, but not the definite scenario.

I think Davis will franchise him just because of his ego. I can't see Davis admitting he was wrong for trading a first round pick for a rent a player even the quality of Seymour.

7 million would probably be less then what he would get on the open market. Let's do it!

Though he'll probably start complaining that he's really a DE

ummm......haynesworth took home 32M in the last year

The idiot Patriots could have kept Seymour, lost in the playoffs, tagged him for $12M and risk losing Wilfork for nothing. But NOOO they have to go and get a crappy 2011 1st round pick from the SB contending Raiders, and be stuck with a fat Wilfork for probably $7M!

BB is losing it.
