New England hired former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown, a former N.Y. Jets assistant coach, as its defensive backs coach.

Re: Corwin Brown named new DB coach

Welcome Corwin.

Re: Corwin Brown named new DB coach

I wonder if Boyer will replace either Pepper or Patricia if they move up. There's been no word on Boyer getting axed. I guess Charlie must have spoken highly about Brown to Bill.

Belichick also has background with Brown, having coached him as a player with NE and the NYJ.

Corwin Brown is very nearly an anagram for Connor Barwin ... a promising sign, in my book.

Spooky, I was thinking the same thing when I saw his name

Anyway, interesting little snippet from Bert Breer's Twitter page:

Belichick told me a few yrs back C Brown was 1 of smartest players he coached ... They used to do extra film wrk, to prep CB 4 coach career.

Great minds think alike. I wonder what Brown's 3-cone time is, and whether he used to play TE? :singing:

Re: Corwin Brown named new DB coach

Well...those Notre Dame defenses these past couple of years looked great!

Re: Corwin Brown named new DB coach

Assuming Pepper is OK with whatever BB does with DC than we will have two defensive coaches with playing experience in our system and since the talk last year was how Pepper's experience helps him relate with the players one would surmise the same would be true of Corwin. And he has good experience with guys from the BB/parcells tree seeing as he has worked with Weis, Mangini, and Groh. On the surface there is a lot to be excited about. Good luck Corwin we need you to be successful.

How in the world did Reiss miss the fact that crwin played under Belichick for the Patriots during our Super Bowl year in 1996?

It's probably in his BSPN contract.

He was great in Major League

Re: Corwin Brown named new DB coach

Hope this is a step in the right direction. Could he be better than Dom Capers? We shall see!

Right now this looks great, but there are a lot of pieces to this puzzle..

I know, and their pass defense was absolutely terrible. As a Notre Dame guy, I find this amazing.

FWIW, Schefter has backtracked a bit on whether or not Brown will be the DBs coach in title:

It Is What It Is Schefter on D&C: Pats add Brown to coaching staff

I think, from what my understanding is, he is going to be working largely with New England’s defensive backs

...

"Will he just be the defensive backs coach or could he be the defensive coordinator?
That remains in question. But I think right now he is going to work with the defensive backs largely.

So it's certainly possible, on one end of the spectrum, that he has the title of "Defensive Assistant," like O'Brien did in 2007, and works with Boyer and the DBs (like O'Brien did with Caserio and the DBs in 2007). In that case, Boyer would most likely stay as DBs, and Patricia and Pepper as LBs and DL, without a DC in title.

It's also possible, on the other end of the spectrum, that Brown will become the new DC, and work closely with the DBs as Pees did. That seems more unlikely though.

The most likely scenario is that Patricia gets promoted to DC and Boyer moves to LBs.

The Pats announced the move today but did not say what Brown's title would be.

He is an upgrade over what they had.

Great job BB, 1 hire down and six to go!!!!!!
