Mike Uipati. I think with his Senior Bowl performance, 22 is going to be the start of conversations of where he is going go and there are going to be teams with early 2nd rounders wanting to get up to get him. If the Patriots didn't have Mankins, I think he would be extremely high on their board, and he probably is anyways. I have been against a trade down, but if we do not trade up, it might be a good opportunity to move down a few slots and pick up some extra picks both for this year and next.

For the Patriots, if they could move down a few spots and get Odrick from Penn State, then turn around and get someone like Graham out of Michigan early in the 2nd that would be a great start to the draft.

i think brandon graham has practiced his way into the 1st, of course alot could change between then and now

It's possible. Dallas at #27 is reported to be enamored of Iupati. Another team could trade up to get ahead of them, or Dallas could trade up to make sure they get him. Although Green Bay seems to need OT help more than OG, they could take Iupati at #23.

I think that realistically the earliest Iupati might go is Pittsburgh at 18. If he gets past there, he could go to Cincinnati at #21. Andre Smith and Iupati could be a heck of a left side to run behind. But if he slips to 22, I could see some teams wanting to trade up.

Iupati might be worth taking at 22 for the Pats, but it all depends who is still on the board. He certainly helped himself a lot this week.

Hey guys, instead of trading down and letting the other teams having the nice talent, why don't WE take him instead. :)

the reason this might be a good trade down, is because LG is one of the patriots strongest positions with Mankins there. If you think Iupati can play RT then maybe draft him, but the talent we need is not at his specific position right now and there are other gaurds in the later rounds that could be had to play the RG position. It is about specific team value and Iupati's for the patriots is probably a little lower than for other teams that may give up good value.

why not play him at RG? scouts think hes a monster and a few years from now could be one of the top guards in the league

Iupati may be considered a stud, but who knows how BB will value Iupati compared to Mike Johnson, Maurkice Pouncey or Vlad Ducasse? If Iupati is the BVA at 22 we'll take him. If someone valued more highly is available, we take that player. If we don't value Iupati or anyone else available highly enough to take at 22, we trade down. Same as always.

If BB had valued Oher, Mathews, Maualuga or Laurinaitis highly enough he would have taken those players last year. Rightly or wrongly, he didn't.

What a concept...

So you are saying take the talent with our pick instead of letting someone else have him.

Bill Belichick is number one on the redial button for most teams on draft day.

The days of trading out of the talent pool so we can get an extra 5th rounder in a year or two is giving me grey hair.

Forget 5ths, the two extra #2s we have this year are from the trade downs and they're looking like damn good picks right around now.

They do look good, but if that guy is still on the board, TAKE HIM! How much longer is Tf'nB going to last taking the punishment he did this year? Get him some protection and fine some beasts that will make our old grey horses look like studs.

What you say is valid. WHEN we had talent, that formula worked well. Now our talent is fringe and depth is poor. TB, even in a down year gets us to the Play-Offs. The clock is ticking for him. You have to have outstanding talent in order to use those now most hated words to any NFL fan..."Best Player Available". Cousins let's face it, we do not have the talent of 2007 or beyond that.

We need to Draft talent if Mr. Kraft doesn't want to spend on FA for sure, but the top 53 in this draft aren't there because they won a slogan contest. They were supposedly markedly better than the 153 player etc. as rated by coaches and media etc .

One of the most successful teams ever was the 2007 Pats and we had some rather select FA's. Look at the Saints with Vilma, Sharper, Shockey, Brees, Fujita and even Randall Gay and David Thomas plus others, made the Saints what they are today. There are some premium talents there that they obtained.......NOT THROUGH THE DRAFT! Do you think the Saints are in the Super Bowl without the Trades and FA's they picked up? Absolutely NOT! So all you "build through the Draft" guys, I say you need a mix.

We have thirteen positiuons that need upgrades in 2010 at least: Both OLBs, one ILB, one CB, one DE, a Punter, two TE's, a RG, a RT, two WR's and a RB.

We only have 8 Draft picks....Now what? Think we hit on all 8?

O.K. you say the Colts are built through the Draft but take Manning away and do they make the play-offs? Nyet! That was an extreme circumstance for a one in a decade HOF player who could make Chad Jackson and Bethel Johnson look like Jerry Rice. Gracon??? Please!

My point is trade down but only after there are a few quality FA's signed so we can draft for depth and the future and get a few surprises later on.

As Mayo says, Get a Dansby or a Kampman and a Antonio Bryant (not my binkie but I get his point). Even a Merriman or a Peppers would help if you could make the right deal. O.K. Now let's screw around with these drop down picks. We had so many last year (and most worked out to be fair) BB must have been pulling names form a fish bowl toward the end of the day.

If we get blessed and have the top four choices in the top 53 work out just fine, will we be a better team in 2010? Nope! It's NOT enough and we still do not have the leaders with a veteran presence.

I dont see a standout pass rusher to take in the first round at 22 so he seems like the best pick for us (to replace Neal)

Fantastic guys, we should definetly trade down. Who needs starters these days. I say we keep trading back so we can get guys who can contribute on special teams (end sarcasm) i dont want extra mid round picks just so we draft another ohernbeger and busey. Pkus why spend another high pick on a guard. This team won superbowls with nobodies at guards. The reason brady gets hit more is the playcalling of plays that take forever to develop. Their is plenty of passrushing help we can pick up in this draft early. And in a draft that everyone says is super deep, if wee hear that BB doesnt like anyone, then we know the krafts dont want to pay 1st round money. People stop being obssessed with draft picks for draft picks sake. How many 1st and 2nd year players do you think can make this team.

Or depending on what happens with Wilfork, we could take a LARGE DE to line up opposite Warren.

I agree with taking a "stud" player if he is available at 22 and not trading down but for me if spiller or dunlap were not available I would love to trade down in this draft.....Especially with the extra day to evaluate your picks for the 2nd and 3rd rounds.....I believe someone will overpay to move up and give us more ammo and then we can still get some great players in the draft....I also think it depends on what BB does in FA to what he will do in the draft.....People may say DUH to that statement but what I mean is if he spends a ton of money bringing in some good FA's then he might want to trade back out of the 1st round to not have to pay 1st round money to someone.....I am all for trying to get McClain or Spiller as they are going to be great playmakers but just going off of BB's MO I believe we will be picking on friday instead of thursday night.....

Right now Spiller, Dunlap, Dan Williams and Brian Bulaga are the obvious guys who I think would be values at #22 who could possibly last that long. All 4 could also easily be gone, in which case a trade down probably makes sense.

How about Jermaine Gresham?

I really don't want to go TE or WR in the first round, and preferably not in the first 2. But Gresham is certainly a legitimate talent, and a solid value there if he checks out post-injury.

If Dez Bryant is there at 22, Belichick may just take him, and I don't think he would be a bad choice. In any other draft year, he goes between 5 and 10.
