28 years later, the snowplow game still aggravates Shula

Anything that gets Shula's blood pressure up is fine by me. Hell, I'll even give this thread five stars.

Don Shula was Bill Polian before Bill Polian, using his spot on the competition committee (used to be called the rules committee in those days) to influence officials calls resulting in his team consistently being the least penalized.

If one ref mistake going against him still eats at him all these years later, it doesn't make up for the hundreds that went in his favor, but it does make me smile.

It's true that Shula routinely brutalized game officials and felt comfortable doing so due to his position on the competition committee.

In 1984, the Patriots held a pre-draft function for season ticketholders (there weren't many of us) that was attended by a number of team officials during which Ron Meyer spoke about just how angry Shula was. Meyer said that Shula promised to use his influence to make sure that Miami never again played the Patriots in New England during the month of December. The next time the Dolphins visited the Patriots in December was 1993.

1) How classy of him to say "Rozelle agreed", since Rozelle has passed on and no one can verify that.

2) This guy needs to let it go. It wasn't like it was a playoff game. In fact IIRC they still went to the Super Bowl that year, didn't they? Sheesh.

3) Whenever people bring up the Tuck Rule I remind them, "Hey, it's the rule." Similarly, there was no rule saying you couldn't do what the Pats did. Further, check out this comment from the BSPN page:

As Blue Suede Shoes Shula likes to tell Jet fans about leaving the tarp off the field the night before the AFC Championship game and creating a mud-pit instead of a football field, to get over it. Donny-boy you need to get over this!!!
;)

good..i am glad he is still mad about it. after what he said in 07 anything that upsets him i am happy about

He's a bitter old man that hangs on to petty things. If he had any class he wouldn't have acted the way he did in 07 towards us or any undefeated team for that matter. Whatever makes him angry I say great.
