He does speak his mind. And he's right and the commish is out to lunch as usual.

Colts president Bill Polian on Pro Bowl requirements: 'It's stupid'

Polian said he's unhappy with NFL demands that the Colts' seven Pro Bowl players appear at the all-star game in Miami on Sunday (even though they are not playing). The rest of the Colts will not travel to Miami until Monday, ahead of their Super Bowl XLIV date with the Saints.

"It's stupid," Polian said of the Pro Bowl to an Indianapolis radio station. "It's a disruption, but we'll deal with it."

"If it weren't for the Pro Bowl disruption, they would have the weekend off, but they can't because we have to send those players to Miami to do Lord knows what. We'll come back and practice on Sunday and the Pro Bowl players will go and do whatever they have to do and then the team will leave on Monday."

Polian said final details weren't even set on where the Colts Pro Bowlers would spend Sunday night.

"We don't even have any details or anything like that. Maybe they will call us Friday and tell us. In any event the fact of the matter is that we're thinking that they're down there Sunday night and they will meet us Monday, which is a hell of a thing isn't it? It sends a great message to all the young people out there and all the coaches that talk teamwork that you take your best seven players and split them up from your team at the ultimate moment in sports."

Don't hold it in tell us how you really feel.:D

Polian is right. Goodell has made a monumental **** up with this new Pro Bowl format.

I feel dirty agreeing with him. I'm going to sit in a bath of bleach now.

Oh Goddell, never change.

So, who's ready to see David Garrard tear it up in the Pro Bowl?

Anything that gets Polian's blood pressure up a few points is fine with me. That being said, the Pro Bowl has outlived any significance as an actual game. They should just have a two-hour live awards ceremony instead showing film clips of the players.

I'd prefer to see the players tackle cheerleaders or the Lingerie Football League players on the Hawaii beaches ala Any Given Sunday.

I think the Colts' players having to go to the Pro Bowl is stupid. Let them prepare for the Super Bowl. Rest is an important part of preparation, and they won't get it like the otherwise would.

I bet Polian was all for the Patriots' coaches spending all Saturday getting their depositions taken. Not the week before the Super Bowl, but the DAY before the Super Bowl.

Thought it was dumb when we spoke about the new date last year and still think it's dumb, now your seeing why. As unremarkable as the pro bowl is now I'd imagine most of the players selected enjoyed relaxing in Hawaii to round off the season too.

Why the hell do they have to go if they're not playing?

if you want player the play in the worst all star game in all of sports then don't make it one week befor the SB and keep it in hawaii.

It can't be an all star game when none of the players from the Saints and Colts will play.....

It still is a meaningless game. I haven't watched it in years and I still won't

My players being played millions of dollars have to make an appearance at an NFL event for fans instead of having the entire weekend off.

Stop ****ing complaining, pathetic.

Good one..........

When I found out the Pro Bowl would be before the Super Bowl I automatically just assumed players in the SB wouldn't need to show up. It's pretty stupid that they do.

Yeah, hard to disagree with NaPolian on this one. Aren't the sponsors going to have plenty of chances to hobnob with Dolts and Saints players during the rest of the week anyway???

Attendance will be poor. Four days before the game and you can still get lower-level tickets via Ticketmaster. I'll bet if they gave tix away free the stadium still wouldn't be full.

I'll say one thing for him. Like it or not, right or wrong, fair or unfair, Polian always has his team's back and is always looking to give them an edge, be it mental, through a rules change or with the officials. His attitude is "You look out for yours and I'll look out for mine." I actually kind of like that.

In this case, he's clearly right and Goodell, on yet another front, looks just plain wrong.

The more I think about it, Goodell is a perfect case example of a staff guy who's been served up by the owners (he was their lawyer and they think of him as the hired help) to handle the CBA negotiation since they pulled the plug on the old deal. One way or the other, he'll be damaged goods with the Players and many owners when the new contract is done and the owners will toss him aside like a broken toy. I actually think he's smart enough to understand that but doesn't mind as long as he cashes a big check every couple of weeks.

I actually don't like that. I don't think anyone on an NFL team should be on the competition committee. Fisher and Polian have no business there. And I also think the league office plays favorites too, and it's easy to prove as Ray Anderson got cozy with the Jets last year after the second New England game.

Since Polian's crying about this means it'll get changed in the offseason.

Well - the fact that it's taken Polian this long to determine what we all knew instantly should make you feel better.

Is Goodell surprised that placing an already irrelevant game with numerous no-shows the week before the Super Bowl has now ensured that even MORE players are going to opt out?

Maybe when they get down to Jamarcus Russell as the starting Pro-Bowl QB because everyone else has opted out or developed an "injury" Goodell might get the message.
