They are desperate to get Tebow for their fan base. They know that their own pick at #10 is a reach and nobody else will take him nearly that high.

It seems like they would be eager to acquire a late 1st to get him, and could pay to do so, but they have no second rounder- we already have it.

It would be smart for them to trade #10 to us for #22 and also get their #42 back. That way at #22 they for sure get the guy their fans want anyway (Tebow) and also get an impact guy at #42. This works for us if BB identifies a worthy #10 pick that no way lasts to #22.

They could also probably use #42 for Tebow, but that may get risky if he has good tryouts.

I'm sure the value charts say #10 is worth more than #22 + #42, but for Jacksonville it allows them to appease their fans (and maybe stay in town) while filling another need before the 3rd round.

They could just take him at #10, but in my trade they can say that they got the guy they wanted at #10 and another guy for nothing. Makes sense.

Thoughts?

That trade makes sense mathmatically as far as the draft value chart is concerned. I have said in previous posts that I would make that trade in a heartbeat if McClain is still on the board at #10.

Keep in mind Jacksonville's pick is still yet to be determined, they have a coin flip schduled at the combine with Chicago (who has already traded their pick to Denver) for the #10 and 11 spots. Interesting enough is that as Pats fans we actually want Jacksonville to lose that coin flip and pick at #11 in the first round because it would make their second round pick #42, otherwise, if they win and get #10, then there second round pick will be #44.

It makes no sense, by NFL rules.

For us to get #42, Jax would have to LOSE the coin flip with Chicago, which would give them #11. If they win and get #10, then we pick at #44.

With that in mind, if the trade still works and Rolando McClain is available, it's worth a shot.

then it's #22 and #44 for #10

or

#22 and #42 for #11

which is a complicated thread title, but still the same idea and still a near break-even value-wise

If there is a guy at #10 that BB covets, then I think he would make that move in a heartbeat.
Jacksonville has several nees, so this trade makes perfect sense for them as well.

Maybe we can get them to throw in Groves. We'll have to get Ochmed some Valium however or he'll be up for days. :D

Sweet! Thanks for the lovin!

I have to wonder if Groves' development has not been irreversably damaged by being in the 4-3 these past several years. But hey BB loves veteran retreads as pass rushers!

I thought he could have been special as a 3-4 OLB coming off the end.

I'd rather offer them 47. The value chart would come out at 1210, less than 1300, but pick 42 is more valuable than points for us. The Dolphins and Broncos pick at 43 and 45; I think they would be looking for similar players. This would also put the Jags behind us.

Any major move up has to be for McClain -- just look and see who would have more value. Also, if BB is targetting McClain, you can bet the house he'll have a pre-arranged trade worked out if McClain were to slide to that slot.

I'd think there'd be better candidates than McClain. Is McClain that much of an upgrade at SILB over Mayo to make that move? Or would you rather just develop a two-down stuffer and sub in Guyton in the nickel.

I think it would have to be a special player to move up for and I'm not sold that McClain is that guy. Maybe Spiller, maybe Bryant, maybe Haden, depending what happens leading up to the draft.

We'd play McClain at SILB and let Mayo make some plays in the WILB position.

This is just another thread on whether we would trade our 22 and 42 for McClain. Would anyone trade up fro anyone else?

While McClain may not solve all our defensive woes I believe he can be the leader we lack on defense for years. After him I don't see anyone I would trade up for.

Lets assume McClain is gone by #10. (I would grab him if I could and it does make sense with the Jags...but). Would you trade Merriweather and our first 2nd rounder to the Jags for that #10 and their third rounder and take Taylor Mays?

Chung and Mays would be a decent backstop for many years.

Tebow ill still be there at #44 and they get a starting "All Pro" Safety and Florida (Miami) guy.

Mayo is a WILB playing SILB. In other words, he's playing out of position.

The thing with McClain is that he's very smart and he's like another coach on the field.

That's one option, I'd move him to OLB and let McKenzie battle it out inside with Mayo and Guyton. To play along with the fantasy drafting...

If folks plan on taking McClain at #10 or 11, then grab a WR in the mid-second and Eric Norwood in the late second. McClain and Norwood, with TBC and/or Burgess, if re-signed, puts the OLB situation back on track - and create depth inside too. I consider WR the major positional issue for the team and would like to see one of the better multi-purpose kids brought in to push Edelman, Tate, Stanback, and Jenkins.
