I have been quite surprised by the number of Patriots fans who have a greater hate for the Colts than the Jets this week. I do understand the Colts hate, but in this case, I think it's very narrow in focus.

Let's examine the reasons to hate both teams and why hating the Jets more is the most logical.

1. The Jets have always been our closest rivals dating back to the old AFC days. For 10 or more years they hung their one SB win around our necks.

2. We play the Jets 2 times per year every year and their always seems to be some crap going on between the 2 teams. We have been playing the Colts once or twice per year recently but that's only because the 2 teams finish first in their division and then meet in the playoffs. When Manning is no longer playing we probably won't play them but once every 3 years because they will be sucking again.

3. The Jets insulted the Patriots by tampering with Parcells during Super Bowl week. Then they tampered with Curtis Martin so we couldn't match the offer for him.

4. The Jets were the reason that the taping thing got blow way out of proportion. Then former Jets employee Roger Goodell overreacted and took a 1st rounder away from us thinking it would help the Jets be competitive with Patriots in the future.

Now those few things should be enough to make any true Patriots fan hate the Jets more. But in case you need more try this on for size.

We can have a real emotional satisfaction if the Colts beat the Jets:

1. The Jets have never won an AFC title and have not made it to the Super Bowl for 40 years. A loss this Sunday will keep that losing streak alive and maybe go on for another 40 years.

2. A Colts win Sunday sets them up to get a whacking by the Saints in the Super Bowl. Just think how joyful that will feel watching that take place.

If all this typing has help one or two Patriots change their thinking and decide to wish for a Jets loss on Sunday, it has been worth it.

Has it?

I do, just as soon as they embarrass the Indianapolis quitters.

Absolutely not.

Colts getting beat by the Jets would be the most embarrassing thing to happen to them. I want to root for that.

Also if Colts end up in the superbowl, we'll have to listen to more ball-washing of Manning being the best QB in a long time despite his 8-8 postseason record.

Two very short sighted responses,if I may so. You must look at the big picture and long term.

A win in the AFCCG will now get the loser monkey off the Jets back in their eyes and in the eyes of their fans. They will no longer consider themselves inferior even if they lose in the SB. Don't you want them to be losers for as long as possible?

Now the Colts expect to win the SB. It really would hurt them more to lose the SB. It's a win-win situation for Patriots fans to have the Colts beat the Jets and then the Colts lose in the SB.

Focus your hate people, where it can do the most harm to both teams.

EDIT: Picture this in your mind. The media does a Manning and Colts complete body message with nails and shampoo for 2 weeks. Then they get killed by the Saints in the SB, if that doesn't give you immense pleasure,I don't know what will.

I totally agree with this. Sorry Patsnutme! Can't agree with you on this one.

Of course I want both teams to lose, but one of them has to make the SB. It's the lesser of 2 evils.

Besides, it will be more fun to cut the Jets down to size next season after they make the SB this season and their fan base gets all smug again. Let them have a taste of success, then we'll bring them back to earth next year.

Why, oh why, would you want Jets fans to have any joy? Why?

I'm rooting for the Colts :(

Sure it'll be nice if they lose but overall I have to root for them because at least they, and their QB, are SB quality. The Jest is a total joke, sure they'd be far less likely than the Colts to actually win the SB but if I like or dislike two teams about equally I'm going to root for the better, more deserving team and that is absolutely the Colts.

I don't care who wins, as long as they lose in the Super Bowl.

This is a horrible post season because the only team worth rooting for is NO. I really hate the Colts, surprisingly more than the Jets.

Lets face it, the Jets have one good season under each and every head coach. The rest of the years they are fondly remembering the one good season. So it will be this year. Do I like seeing them in the SB? NO, would I rather see Manning there? HELL NO.

I am a simple man with simple dreams. Colts humiliated in the CG, and the Jets CRUSHED in the SB by the Saints.

P.S.

Also lord if its not too much trouble. A few more INT's thrown by Farve would be awesome too!

Yeah, but it's also a win/win if the Jets beat the Colts and then the Jets lose in the SB.

And, yes I hate the Jets for all the reasons you stated, but I hate the Colts just as much and I hate P.Manning, PoLyin, pick plays, PI calls and rule changes even more!

:deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse::deadhorse:

Priority 1: NO winning the SB. Longtime Brees fan.
#2: Jets beat Colts, humiliating them. Manning face website gets lots of new pix. Polian humiliated.

No matter WHAT happens loudmouth, braying NY fans will be spouting nonsense untill the BB gets it going and the Pats return to form next season

I'm rooting for the team less likely to win the title. That would be the Jets. As I do not want an AFC team to take it all, and the draft picks change in the Pats favor with a Jets win, I am hoping the Jets go.

Add to that a title for the Colts starts dynasty claims based on the number of titles in recent years, I fail to see how Pats fans are better off with that scenario.

:agree: I feel this way also. But also for all the reasons PATSNUTme mentioned and the fact I know so many loud mouth Jets fans who spare
no words in degrading the Patriots, I hope the Colts DESTROY them.

Some convincing arguments; still, you can't be serious. How is the Colts making it to the big one and being crushed by NO (if they do) better than being humiliated by Dumb and Dumber on their home field?

I get that you hate the Jets, but the Colts have done far more damage to the Pats IMO, and whether it's Poilan, their knack for making other teams commit penalties in crucial moments, their extraordinarily loud (and warm) stadiums, or just plain divine intervention, something is clearly amiss in the football universe as it relates to the Colts.

For the first time I'll just be watching football and not rooting for any team to score. If I see an amazing play, on offense or defense, I'll think that was an amazing play. If the refs make a bs call I'll complain about the refs. The cards will be dealt and one AFC team will proceed to the final table and one will bust out. It would be nice, for me, if I was right in predicting the Jets will not win any championships. But, the Colts are complicit in getting the Jets into the playoffs so it would be great irony if they lost. But that's about it.

don't forget espn ignoring the real story. the hypocrisy of mangini squeeling and the history of taping. of course they would never throw their beloved jets under the bus. espn would like everyone to beleive taping begins and ends with the pats 2001-2006.

the jets have served their purpose by ousting the sd super chokers. now it's time for them to go back under the rock they crawled out from and watch nawleans spank goober in the sb.

i was thinking Jets - nut then I ventured over to Jets Insider (login is Emerson's Boozing) and felt my IQ immediately drop 45 points (that's half) and my blood pressure increasing 45 points..

f the Jets - go colts

I totally agree patsnutme! I too have been surprised with the rooting for the jest by pats fans. I can't, nor do I want to, imagine listening to the media and jets fans babble on and on about their overrated rookie QB making it to the SB. Nightmare. I die a little inside every time I say it, but go Colts.

"Et tu, Brute?"

Of all the Patriots fans on this board I never, ever thought that you would want Jets and their fans to experience any joy. I never ever, figured you would want them to step foot on a Super Bowl field.

I must say I'm shocked.

Go JOLTS!!!
